Seed catalogs have started coming in the mail and it’s time to decide what new varieties we’ll try to grow in 2023. And while we’re not huge fans of seed catalogs, we’re really excited about this new Wood Prairie Potato catalog that has a few new varieties that we’re excited about growing.
Join us as we tell you our plans for a few seed varieties that we’ll carry on our website in 2023 and show you what we’ve been doing to keep our greenhouse warm during this Arctic Blast. It hasn’t been easy, but so far we’ve been able to keep all these baby fig trees from freezing.

Hi Travis. Here in Jensen Beach the weather information that I got was that the low temp was 38 deg. My neighbor said it was 34 deg this past Christmas weekend. Cheers, Chuck in Jensen Beach, Florida. Zone 10a?
I forgot my garlic in back of the refrigerator! Can I still plant? Ms Coast.
Been waiting years for Sarpos to arrive.
We were on a Climbing trip to Wales this summer and there's a huge grower for seed out that way. Debated tryin' to slide a few pounds past customs on the way home but decided the fines weren't worth it.
Expect huge harvests of Sarpo Mira potatoes…this is the first time I've seen them available in the US.
I so wish you were in current time. A week ago was a way long a time ago with 18 degrees weather. Please get up to speed to December 27
When will you guys put fig trees for sale? I want to get several of several varieties. I enjoy y’all’s videos
It got down to 21 here in Central Florida, Lake County, now about 35 tonight with a high of 55 tomorrow
Central Oklahoma…wind chills -22 and I think coldest air temp was 1 degree. Got a decent amount of freezing rain. We Are not equipped for that kind of weather. Keeping cattle fed watered etc was not fun
North FL and we got down to 22, and my cucumbers survived! 200 watt bulb lamp under blankets hung on the hoops
Got 2 already, Holmes Seed Company and Baker Creek Heirloom. Should be getting a few more with Johnny Seed being my favorite.
That early Friday morning (December 23) the temperature hovered between 9 and 10 degrees here in Shaw,Mississippi. The Saturday low was 12 degrees! I think that was lower than the worst temperatures we had last winter! 🥶
14 degrees' was the high mid atlantic , My question about the cold weather is , Did February weather come early , or are We going have major cold winter like back in the 1977 when Chesapeake Bay froze over ? I bet your DAD remember that year . Black PICKLE BARREL ( 2) WITH A AQUARIUM HEATERS WOULD BE CHEAPER than running electric heaters .TRY OF ROLL OF BLUE PAINTERS TAPE it hold longer and doesn't stick.
We got down to -1F here in Cookeville, TN. We were able to get the last cabbage and Brussels Sprouts harvested, but as you can imagine, nothing that was left out there made it through Christmas.
Cold doesn’t describe how cold it got here in NWFL….16 degrees!!!! We had propane and electric heaters going in our 20×20 greenhouse along with dropping the ceiling so the heat would stay closer to our plants. Looks like everything survived without much damage except my husband who was very tired from checking the temps every two hrs for the three nights it was cold.
I made it out to untarp my backyard garden here in 9a Northwest Florida. Brussel sprouts cabbage both made it. Collards look a little limp but I think it will make it too. Unbelievably; my celery. Plants made it but the lettuce took one for the team. Better luck next time. 😅
I’m in Alabama “Roll Tide “ bout 30 from Tuscaloosa and Birmingham right in the middle and it got down to 16 wind chill of -12. I did have the luxury though of moving what plants I have left inside my shop with a oil heater going so they made it ok Enjoy the videos and happy holidays to y’all. Gonna try and get some of your seeds when you post them Thanks
I am looking forward to the dwarf cowhorn Okra seeds!!!
7 degrees Allentown PA
I'm Canadian but in Florida near St. Petersburg on vacation and it got to about 34°F! Wasn't expecting to wear my winter coat and long johns but that's exactly what I did lol.. but it's much better than where our farm is in Niagara – across the border from Buffalo. Huge storm and it was 56 hours without power.. our angel neighbours went over to our house with their generator to try to get the furnace going! I'm nervous about all the plants I had in the sunroom.. 2 lemon trees, 1 orange tree, 2 bougainvilleas that were my Mom's, lots of sentimental plants like that. 😬🤞🤞
The baker creek one has been lacking, they have great seeds, but this year the catalog hardly has anything in it like they used to, I've been getting it since 2006
Got down to 1° here in rural NW Oklahoma with the wind chill in the -25° range. Got the stock tanks to start thawing finally. Looking forward to trying Wood Prairie Farm potatoes.
Love THE WHOLE SEED CATALOG from BAKER CREEK! Got my hands on 21 seeds for “Shinshu” runner bean — the largest bean in the phaseolus vulgares family. Look forward to growing out the variety in 2023 and learning what it does. Your Turkey Creek tomatoes sound intriguing! Best wishes fromKate in Olympia,WA — 12/26/2022.
