We planted two rows of broccoli earlier this fall with the intention of harvesting a little at a time so that we could stagger the harvest. But things don’t always go as planned when you get some rogue weather.
We’re expecting some extremely cold weather which is going to force us to harvest it all a little early. Join us as we implement some frost protection measures including covering our chocolate habanero peppers and harvesting all our broccoli before they get frozen and turn to mush.

In OH, it’ll be 0 or below, and that’ll be the end of the greens I’ve had going. I can’t complain though, this is the longest I’ve ever had fresh spinach.
Broccoli can be blanched and frozen eh. I hope you get through the frost okay!
I just leave the frost cover on all winter with zero problems my man. Been doing this for 10 years. I may come squeak a end open in the morning if it's sunny, but yeah, I don't take it off.
Those beautiful broccoli leaves can be cooked like collard greens with a bit of smoked meat. Delicious!
Can you have drip tape and 5/8" poly tubing with emitters on the same 5/8" tubing supply line?
Great videos keep them coming
Freeze some
Gotta do what ya gotta do to preserve the harvest, it’s already hit here in KY. I had a kale salad today before it hits -4 tonight lol
Had to cut all my cabbage this evening. Gonna be a rough ride these next few days.
Quite the broccoli harvest Travis. Be glad you won't be getting my -7 F weather.
TRAVIS, MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A BLESSED NEW YEAR TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!
Hurricane took out my garden, I quickly replanted everything since I had plenty of time before a frost since we dont normally frost/freeze until Feb.. oh well. At least I got 5 gallon of peppers
Just harvested my broccoli here in NWFL. Like you I’m hoping my side shoots will make it through the 14-20’s this weekend. Will pull my cauliflower tomorrow and as much of my collards and cabbage. Hope y’all have a very Merry Christmas and try to stay warm.
Your broccoli looks great even in a purple tub. This gardening is a roller coaster ride. My fall garden has been the best ever and now an eminent threat coming with 13 degrees forecast Saturday morning. Most every thing covered, we shall see! Thanks for your time making your very significant videos.
What happened to the ducks?
chalk full of info. thanks. Merry Christmas
Have you try a rooting box for your fig trees
😊😊😊😊
SE FL 10b – had no choice but to harvest my strawberries (which I got from Hoss), collards and beets. I have plum and slicing tomatoes that are just turning pink. Didn't have enough cover for everything, but luckily I'm growing in buckets (not Dawg buckets sadly). So we moved the car outside and all the tomatoes are in the garage. They made it through our two hurricanes so I'm hoping to get these to hold on in the garage! Stay warm LDF!!
Hi Travis, the peppers will kill off at freezing. As a last resort, you can pull up the peppers and put them in tubs indoors for a few days. It is a bit of work, but given the alternative, it is worth it.
