This video shares how to keep critters out of your yard and garden using a super cheap and easy to install product! I had a nasty opossum stealing my citrus, persimmons and tearing up the ground under my fence. This actually worked to stop the critter, and it can keep pests out of your garden and yard, too!
I developed a cheap and easy way to build a DIY perimeter fence dig barrier for a fraction of the cost of typical solutions. This will work to keep animals out of your garden and yard that tunnel under fences. This will keep rabbits out, keep rodents out, keep raccoons out, keep possums out, etc.

LOL. You will be better off with electric wire connected to one of those electric zappers. We had a couple of possums that climbed up and would walk on the top of the fence like acrobats (I saw them doing it one night myself).
They were walking along the top of the fence and then jump up onto our roof (about 3 ft from top of fence to top of roof edge) — and they then tried hard to break into our attic. They ended up doing close to $600 of roof shingle damage trying to get in around the roof vents. They are a lot stronger and determined than you might think, oh yes, and acrobatic.
So I got one of those Patriot PE2 Electric Fence Energizer, 0.10 Joule zappers for about $36 on Amazon and stapled the top of the fence with exposed bare copper wires about 1/2 inch apart so they would not touch each other. When contact is made with both wires at the same time, they give you one heck of a jolt. I tested it myself by touching both wires at the same time and it is not a pleasant sensation. Does not kill the critters but they learn not to com back to your fence. Those possums don't come back to my house anymore.
Interesting. Around here I see the possums walk along the top of the fence like a highway and it's skunks that dig under the fence to get in. You might consider making a variation of a 'cat fence' if critters start coming over the top. Cat fence is wire mesh fixed to angled brackets along the top of the fence. I know- sounds like a prison yard, but if it's black, it is not that visible to humans. You'd probably only have to do the fence run along the creek side. BTW- Merry Christmas!
Great method to preserve your fruit. I am battling squirrels that pick my fruit trees clean. I plan on trying the tree bags to save some of the fruit. Let us know if you have any tips to slow down those pesky rodents! Merry Christmas to Dale and his human family!
I did essentially the same to keep my dog from constantly escaping and taking herself on little adventures. It’s good backup for when my rabbits escape out the back.
😂 I’m over here trying to keep the pests IN
A dog or cat in the yard helps deter squirrels. Some gardeners have found that putting a water source for squirrels cuts down on them eating your fruit because they are looking for moisture. I have seen squirrels stealing mangoes off of trees.
As if it's not hard enough to grow fruit , with bugs and diseases
We have to fight of rodents , i hate squirrels and all the rest of them ,never had a problem only last 4/5years these animals are over populated and comming to urban areas I blame all the environmentalist.
👍
Merry Christmas Dale and family!😃 That's a great idea…the squirrel guard.👍
Pups are great at getting out of clothing.😄 What's Santa bringing Dale this year?
HELP! My elderly neighbor is feeding feral cats and has started a war with a neighbor across the street who called animal control. We are in a nice neighborhood and these elderly "ladies" routinely curse each other out when they cross paths. The cat routinely scratches her if she gets close, kills birds, and poops in yards (which is dangerous because of toxoplasmosis, and I'm pregnant!) Any tips? I hate that she's doing this. I understand that she likes feeding cats, but she could go to a shelter and adopt instead of feeding feral cats and attracting them to her yard and ours. This past summer we found dead cardinals and bluejays that had been torn apart, and cat feces in our yard, on our trampoline, and in our garden! I hate it! Its unsanitary bc she cant get it to the vet !
Great video as usual.Great tip. Have a Great Holiday and Xmas if you celebrate Xmas and a blessed coming year.
Love your videos, but your solution wouldn't work if enemy #1 is a woodchuck. At a minimum, the barrier should be buried 10", but deeper would be better. They could also climb over a fence like yours.
Solution air rifle would be my next option.
Dale has an average body temp of 102 at rest. This is extremely high for humans but normal for canines. He really needs to keep cool at rest overnight and will shed any insulation that is not comfortable. 👅🐾🐾
Thank you so much for all the help in gardening! Awesome! 😊👍
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
You haven’t dealt with armadillos, I’m guessing. Possums are a picnic by comparison
I have a lot of opossum visiting my garden every week. I am catching about 10 of them already
We want have to worry about any pest for the next few days here in meigs co tn it was six degrees this morning. Enjoy your videos
We have has squirrels and rabbits invade our garden. They were larger and bolder than our cats. I had my spouse ( bless his heart♥️) pee around or garden beds. It worked, but he has to keep it up . I see this done with hardware cloth for chicken runs.
your Possum with the gaping Piranha Jaws is fake, possums are adorable creatures PLEASE don't terrorizE people with a fake image,. possums have a hard enough life as it is without people thinking there piranhas.
Opossum can climb fences they have sharp claws
Raccoons and opossums climb. Hot pepper deters many mammals. Does have to be reapplied after rain though.
Opossums can climb your wooden fence.
I really don't understand how this bird wire panel can keep critters away. Raccoons, squirrels, opossums, etc. they can all climb fences. They climb my fences.
Trust me…raccoons and opossums will easily climb a wooden fence. They are great climbers that spend a lot of time in trees.
Did your camera actually record them eating fresh fruit? They typically prefer to eat what's rotting on the ground.
