It’s Just Another Day in Calbayog City, Philippines. It was hit and miss finding breakfast this day and on the home front, we’re gitin ‘er done. Got the replacement water heater installed and the car’s air conditioning serviced, and I blew something up… All in one day!

WE’RE RANDY 🇺🇸 and TERI 🇵🇭… two people who have found our paradise in the tropical Western Pacific, living out our retirement to the fullest.

We retired early and in 2013 we sold our home, packed it all up and moved to the Philippines. We built a home on the island of Samar and learned that our much desired utopia did not exist in a single location and 4 years later, we moved to Guam. Now we enjoy the commonality and difference that both locations offer. While curiosity is the key to unlocking life, pushing one’s self to live outside their comfort zone softens expectations, and has helped us to embrace the great unknown. And the more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

We still look to new adventures, and have come to understand that comfort and stability play an important role in any chosen lifestyle. Today, it’s all about managing resources and health, and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

Our journey is ever-evolving but our goal remains the same: To enjoy life to it’s fullest… and as much as possible, just hanging out in the “Tropic Shade.” 🌴

Formerly “Retired in Samar,” we are now “Living in the Pacific.” 🥂

  1. I think the vendors are there just for the holidays, they did the same thing last year. Parking? Fugetaboutit!

  2. Hi randy..im one of your subscriber..originally from calbayog also. You hit a view of my fathers building in front of jollibee in this video and i was happy to see the sorrounding commercial area.
Im living in texas now..your vlogs helps me a lot on our plans about relocating to guam. Thanks for the vlogs and Merry Xmas to both of you!

  3. Dang projects! It's a battle just to get parts to fix things. As on the islands, it can be a logistical nightmare. Especially with U.S. goods. In order to modify/install hot water heaters here you have to have a permit to stay in code where I live. I like that you can do that in Philippines. Hey listen. You want mangos or grass? Lol

  4. I really like shade so I think I'd give up on the grass. I think I would probably go the trailer park route and replace the dead grass with green indoor/outdoor carpet. No maintenance!

  5. Glad you made it back! I'm still buried under snow and fixing up this old Japanese house. Shade tolerant grass? Centipede worked for me in Texas, rest was Bermuda. Love the yard and grill!

  6. If you had a dollar for every time you were told "out of stock" or "not available" you'd be rich…

  7. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I was in Oslob, I went to the only restaurant there and I wanted some french fries, we don’t habe sir, but I saw that they had fish and chips, so I asked…… do you have fish and chips, yes sir, ok then, one order of fish and chips but without fish, we don’t habe sir, what do you mean, you just told me you have fish and chips, yes sir, so one fish and chips without the fish, we don’t habe sir, and the story went on u till I got up and went to 7eleven to have some cold sandwich, I felt like an alien in the Philippines 😂

  8. We went back to Guam from the Philippines Dec.4 and we did not put Christmas decorations either! Have a lovely Christmas to both of you😊

  9. The omelet scenario was hilarious!
I’ll never get used to the “out of stock” saying.
We were at a Mcdo before in SM Fairview. We went up to the counter and we wanted to buy some large fries. They said they were “out of stock.” The mall was closing soon so I thought that was why. We sat down and ate our meal. A couple of minutes later, these two women sat down close to us and they had fries! My wife went up to the counter and talked to staff in Tagalog. When she came back, my wife said told us that the large fries are “out of stock,” but they still had the regular fries.
I guess you really have to be specific when ordering.

  10. Randy,
No Way!!!! You have a Weber charcoal grill mounted in the counter of your kitchen !!! That is truly original. That cat is lucky – she doesn't have to listen to all those roosters. The mall looks like a giant "Ikea" with the blue and gold colors. As an American expat, you truly have to redefine "convenience" and work on practicing patience and tolerance. Cold you tell me approximately how much your monthly utility bills were on Guam?

  11. I've never successfully ordered a hamburger at that Jollibee. Do they ever actually serve them??? There's a chicken joint up the block that's not bad if it's still there.

  12. Shucks! Now you can't complain about hurting your back bending over trimming the grass with scissors haha.
