Landscape maintenance video about how to prune Japanese Holly (Ilex crenata) for optimum health and appearance. This garden maintenance method can be used on other small leaved evergreen shrubs such as Boxwood (Buxus), Inkberry Holly (Ilex glabra), Blue Holly (Ilex spp.), and Yews (Taxus spp.).

Thanks. We didn't have to watch 15 minutes of that, maybe could cut that down to two minutes.
No problem. I couldn't believe what happened to your bush from all that snow last October, but I see it came back OK. We are in the same area and our beautiful kwanzaa cherry tree was hit badly. We tried to remove all the snow but there is still evidence of branches hanging too low and it didn't bloom this spring like it usually does … I'm just hoping it will spring back to it's original shape.
Thank you very much. Very helpful video. Keep up the great work??
So I purchase these about 3 days ago from Home depot. I did some research on them and read somewhere that they only grow to about 3 ft tall. Yours are clearly over 3 feet. My Japanese Holly will grow this big? If so, I made a great choice in buying this. My plant is small now. Maybe a foot if that. How fast can I expect it to grow?
I have 3 holly bushes planted in front of my house that have been doing good for years. I also have 3 azalea bushes that have grown into the holy. I have trimed both back in the past with electric trimmers. I notice this year that the holly have some bare spots where the azaleas have blocked the light. I plan on replacing the azeleas this year, will the holy fill in? Should I prune the bare branches back?
Ken
Your two videos on pruning Japanese holly are terrific. My hollies were in such bad shape after two years of being viciously "snow-plowed" that I thought I would have to pull them out. But after following your careful instructions, I think I may have saved them with thoughtful pruning.
Thank you for this prunning lesson. Very helpful
The traffic in the back ground is awful! Your video is very informative! Thanks!
Hi, I live in Australia. I have seen some of your YouTube videos about selectively pruning. I am interested to prune my hedge plants in this way if it can help my plant. I want to send you some photos of my hedge plant which can describe its problem. May I have an email address please?
Thanks,
Amir
Is it ok to prune now…may 20?
But how do you control for height? Thanks
