As a youngster living in NE Philadelphia in the 70s, I recall watching Jim's first broadcast as anchor live, and through the miracle of today's technology, now get to watch his final broadcast from 400 miles away. Congratulations on a hall of fame career, Jim!
Thinking of the famous verse in the theme song to The Spy who loved me….'Nobody does it better…' Thank you Mr. Gardner, you should be wearing a gold jacket for the journalism HOF;
A class act! Have watched Jim Gardner since 1977 and, although I haven't lived in the Philadelphia area in 30 years, will miss him. Best wishes for retirement, Jim. You have earned it.
Temperatures cannot literally crash. Please explain the literal crashing of temperatures. It’s a fitting accompaniment to someone challenging the ability of the press to maintain fact and news broadcast standards.
I live in Columbus OH now, but I grew up In the Philly area, there’s no one like Jim, my parents grew up watching Jim as did I. Jim enjoy your retirement!
His era of journalism is not the enemy of the people. the new era is. the news does alot to create the social construct of america and when you lie, you are the enemy of the people.
God Bless you, Jim. Thank you for all these years of service to your viewers. Your dedication to the field and to us was superb. You will be missed as I grew up watching you on Action News. 🎬 My grandparents, parents and my boys have always looked forward to seeing you on Action News. Best of luck to you. Enjoy your retirement and maybe make an appearance 😉 once in awhile. Congratulations! I has a tear in my eye when I watched your last broadcast. You are a legend!
My first experience was watching in Atlantic City, NJ. I remember vacationing and wondering why they sang the theme song. I don’t live in Philadelphia, but I’ve seen clips of Jim, and when we visited the area, we made sure to watch him. Best wishes to him.
I’m 40 and I remember on sick days home from school I would watch you. At times you will be my baby sitter joke but seriously I feel like he watched me grow up and not even realize it
Unless Rick Williams didn't want the 6 PM slot, I feel like he should've gotten it based on his tenure. But I think it's pretty obvious why Brian got it.
Much respect to Jim for reporting the news and not falling completely for all this liberal tribalism that has destroyed ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and all of your ilk. Once upon a time Jim was the only local news I would ever listen to. 6ABC played on our TV my entire time growing up in my parent's home. However, those days ended with the creation of Fox News, the internet, and online sources who weren't paid corporate shills. Sadly, all that is left of these once mostly trustworthy news channels, is a group of check-the-box mouthpieces of the Democratic Party. Journalists no longer exist. Investigative journalism and calling out political crimes, a rampant problem in Phila., could get a journalist thrown in jail today. Or at least have their homes raided. That is what we learned with Project Veritas. Anyway, best wishes Jim. You deserve the highest regards and many more years of happiness and good health.

That speech should be required watching for aspiring journalists.
It's OK, someone else will report the daily murders to us with a smile. Kick'em when they're up. kick'em when they're down
