Welcome to our no dig/no till garden where we grow vegetables. We garden in zone 9a. Although we grow our veg from our back garden it is very much set up like allotment gardening uk – allotment life. Our passion is vegetable gardening, bigger harvests and no dig gardening. You will see how growing your own food is so easy.
Spring is upon us and there are plenty of April garden/allotment jobs that can be done during the month.
Gardening in April should see the weather warming up and soil temperatures rising, although it can remind us of the winter that has just gone! We are heading into a month that we can be sowing out side and transplanting seeds sown under cover out side.
If you need a little help to keep track of the jobs you could be doing in the Vegetable GardenAllotment, here’s a few handy tips to help you out in April.
If you have asked yourself the question what can I sow in April, what should I be doing on the veg plot in April or What are my allotment jobs for April ,well there are seeds to sow, potatoes to plant, plants to be transplanted and garden projects to complete.
Time to get moving, since the growing year is now upon us.
In this video, I share what I am sowing for productive gardening, harvesting, planting, and go through some of my April veg garden jobs.

Another good video, shaming us all for not getting started on those April jobs!
Yes to asparagus …
Hi Barry. We are still harvesting leeks although the ones left are very slim. Our pride and joy is the Claret purple sprouting broccoli which we did our first pick of yesterday, 31st March.
We have had a complete fail on onion germination so I’ll be getting some sets to use instead. Very strange as they are usually so reliable. Our main sowings in April will be beetroot and courgettes.
We sow salads every month and our first ones are doing well.
I noted the netting over the cabbages. I have the same netting and will copy your use of it.
Shhhhh we have been very lucky so far and slugs are in short supply but having said that I try to do slug patrol in the mornings. I had heard laying some pieces of wood in or near beds will allow you to “harvest said slugs” from underneath the wood. Thank you for sharing Barry hope the weather was kind 🐝 safe
Love the Elvis tilt of your shirt collar. Still styling' after all these years 😉. I have last years leeks and spring onions coming out now and by some miracle, though eaten to the ground by first the deer and then finished off by the rabbits, some of the kales are resprouting! Have new PS broccoli starts in the beds as of this week. A lot still to plant out but still too early. We get a false spring here that wants to murder everything just for fun! At least we don't have snails or slugs, it's much too harsh here. We have mountain lions and mule deer instead, LOL. Lovely video as always, lovely to see
I just turned my compost bin, planted onions, carrots and peas and mulched the raspberries.👍
I just sowed some corn, celery, broccoli, courgette and cucumber.👍
