You should try a racing small catamaran like an F18 with an experienced sailor, it would be a fun video! It is great to understand of how far you can push the boat. At that size when racing, you are always at the limit flying the hull. I think you can learn faster and gain great understanding of the physics due to the smaller size.

A high performance catamaran using it to go around the world it might not be stable enough if if you travel along the coast but if you hit 50 60 mph winds could it be a problem
I think that your heart on your sleeve approach, while it may have felt a bit “oopsies”, was/is a great resource and body of experience that shows the reality of boat buying…. Glad it seems to be almost at an end for you 🙂

In my Tayana 55 staysail schooner, It has two staysail mains. If I’m running in 22 knots of wind with both mains all the way out .. Then it gusts to 25 . It will throw the boat past the toe-rail . Its weird that only 3 knots makes that much of a difference. You just have to find the sweet spot for the gusts. But she’s super strong . I don’t think I have to be to precise with the two very strong smaller mains . And two equal masts .Way different than a main and genny up . I like pushing my boat hard . If something breaks. Fix it stronger .

Would be interested in advice. I'm at uni at the moment and have been working up the ladder on the RYA (Royal yachting association) qualifications. My current plan is to try to work my way up to yacht master offshore and get some yacht delivery jobs on cats to try out various different models. Presuming I'm able to get a decent amount of experience from deliveries first do you think it would be practical to go strait to a performance boat or would you still recommend getting a slower boat for a few years and then transitioning?
