Thanks guys! Great video as always!
it looks nice travis..your not worried about animals that dig? like weasels.
It looks like popcorn is a fun crop to grow if you have the room. You have to make room for growing some fun stuff like that in your garden I think. I love the first tomatoes, but growing melons is my favorite. There's nothing like a vine ripe watermelon or cantaloupe, and we've usually had enough fresh tomatoes to suit us by the time they are ready to pick. The kids love that stuff too and helps get them involved in the garden. It'll change their lives for the better. Life's a dance, you learn as you go, ♪ ♪ ♪
You should replace those metal door stops with some quarter round. Someone is going to cut their back or noggin.
Would there ever be a problem with fire ants getting to the chicks?
If ya name em, might be harder to eat em. 🤔
He said…Brooklyn don't spaz out….
Well, well. Look at what ya'll did. A lot of thought and craftsmanship went into that tractor. You'll be tweaking this and that over the next months but it looks like it'll work as envisioned. Well done. Got a kick out of Stella watching ChickieVision and Brooklyn spazzing out. Our chickens love to eat purslane. You're blessed with a lack of poultry predators. We lost two birds to the raccoons last month and weasels, bobcats and bears are always a background menace.
Those little pullets will be literally green by the time they work their way through that pea plot.
Ok now I’m excited about growing popcorn. Which variety was this you grew? Probably not enough time to grow in zone 9 this year, right? Yummy!
When your galvanized waterer rusts out in a few months switch your feeder and your waterer out with homemade PVC pipe it works super good there’s lots of YouTube videos on how to make automatic feeders and waterers for your chicken tractor.
Oh my I want one! is there a similar product someone without craftsmanship skills might could purchase and assemble?
Coyotes will simply dig under and get your chicken in no time….
I have a Sapphire Gem and they are very friendly, but mine keep wanting to go broody. They are a sexlink and not supposed to go broody, it's the southern heat 😳
Brooklyn, I promise those little pullets can not hurt you.
I don’t have chickens but if you have Brooklyn in a video I will watch. She cracks me up 🤣.
Exciting y’all! We bought a prefab coop from TSC and then put a big dog pen around it/ reinforced that with hardware cloth dug down into the ground. Our chickens are just a few weeks older than yours. They are loving it! I have wondered if I need to put some type of wood chips or something down on the ground. They sure have worn the grass out already.
You might want to think about siliconing any cracks in the wood on that one side. Rain water will go down the sides and seep into the cracks. Or just make little rain gutters..
Sooooo chickens poop a bunch at night while sleeping so you want the roost to be higher than the nest box for laying. So roosting bars higher than the nest and not over top of the nest. I hope that helps because clean eggs are a delight. Happy Chicken keeping!❤️🎉
Outstanding job on the chicken tractor, and I’m sure your birds are loving the larger roaming space. Nothing better than farm fresh eggs!! Popcorn also looking good and it seems you’ve got the ideal moisture content. Since your garden beds with the peas seem to have really dense growth, do you ever run into snakes or worry about them? I live in the copperhead capital and it is something we always think about when we are outside.
There be chickens! Where I live in LA… lower Alabama… coyotes and foxes will dig under the perimeter of the coop. For a standing coop we put chicken wire down but for chicken tractors a game camera with flash (even low flash) will deter the coyotes but not so much the foxes. A short width strip of chicken wire laid down around the tractor will work. And then just unpin it from the ground when you're ready to move the tractor. Good luck! and may God bless.
I got to get that popcorn popper….Send that chicken tractor collaboration my way, that's in my department and I could use it..LOL
❤👍❤👍❤
You will have to get the water off the ground. They will fill it with dirt sand poop you name it
Pretty awesome! A few thoughts (long time chicken owner here). When they first start laying, they can lay anywhere, so dont be surprised if you end up with some eggs on the floor of the tractor. Might need a hook or a net to be able to reach in there and scoop out any errant eggs laying around.
Speaking of fertilizer, I just read this headline this morning, "World's Largest Nitrogen Plant Declares "Force Majeure," Sends Fertilizer Prices Sky High." My local feed & seed only had two 50 lb bags of the 8-5-5, so I bought both. He is basically out of fertilizer and is unable to find and sources to restock his shelves.Would you please check with some of your contacts to see if fertilizer will become hard to buy in the near future?
Congratulations!!! Yes, fresh popcorn does taste better. It's like eating fresh veggies. There is definitely a better flavor.
Love how interested Stella is in the chickens!❤
Is the feeder too high?
I love your idea, I wish l liked chicken. I am scared to death of them. Got pecked by a mother hen and had me on the ground pecking me on the back of the neck. Needless to say my grandmother made chicken and dumplings. I wish I could get over it.
Why have the tray in place while they are out in the plots?? Isn’t the fertilizer desired in the plot? Are these layers? Build a nest box out of a 5-gallon bucket. Affix to the side below a section that the top opens!! 💕
I like the pluming hose handle. The nesting box may be too high considering heat rises. Think you may have a leaky door, maybe a little ledge over the door frame.
I lie your tractor. A skunk dug under my chicken tractor and killed 6 of my chickens.
The pecking doesn't hurt, at all. It's all in people's heads that it will.
I have astrolops they turn out blue Black feathers ( pretty), big chickens and great layers.
And calm.
That chicken pen looks great! I like the idea of getting coconut oil for popcorn!
The biggest problem I had with chicken tractors is running over chicken legs when I move it. They'll let you know real fast.
So now that you have had this coop for a while, anything you would do differently? And how tall is it? Looks maybe almost 6'?
Well.done.
Do u remove the chickens when u move it around or at night…
