  1. Yes Jim, Christmas is next Sunday. I wish you and Steph a wonderful Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year. Looking forward to your videos coming in 2023. I never miss them.

  2. Something that baffles me is , first I’m in zone 6b southern Missouri, in my native plant beds I take care of at the local botanical gardens I have cannas that come up I did not plant these and to add to it I dig them up every year ( they are non native for here ) they are not really in a micro climate just out in the middle . This has happened 4 years in a row and crazy they multiply every year . I don’t have excessive mulch probably less than 2 inches. I know this is probably a question that has no answer as to why and how this happens lol just another zone mystery 😊

  3. Hey Jim. Been watching your videos for a few months now. Love your organic don't disturb the soil approach to gardening. I wonder if you'd do a video or series drilling down on the importance of native / species planting (Host Plants). In order to support the food web. I just began the process of kicking non-natives out of my space this past year. Also, as for slugs… if you can bring in or provide space for the common Decay's Brown snake or possibly young garder's… They'll help take care of your slug problem. Happy gardening & Merry Christmas.

  4. Sweet Holly. I love seeing her in Sunday videos. Pets are truly part of our family. It's sad when their health deteriorates. She's lucky to have such caring parents.❤

  5. You might not have realized this but "Tenacity" is the name of an herbicide you can spray on the weeds. So when you said the only solution is Tenacity, I was thinking, "Jim is recommending we spray herbicides?" 🤔

  6. I'm thinking about planting a mid to large size Japanese maple in a spot that is regularly moist because of drainage. The area is currently covered by volunteer southern shield ferns. I was thinking about mounding up about 18" or so & using a generous amount of Permatill or other rock to keep roots from being water logged. Can this strategy work? Zone 7b in Carrboro, NC. Thanks.

  7. As soon as I click on your new post I hit the like button – I always know your garden advice will be gold 👍🏻

  8. I’m almost certain that everyone would agree, but you can make these videos 2 hours long and we would still watch. 😆

  9. QUESTION: you mentioned Kanjiro is a very RELIABLE camellia in a recent video – what are your MOST RELIABLE camellias, for fall, for spring?? Would LOVE a Top 10 or similar video on this, one of my favorite videos is your March madness camellia collab with Brie the Plant Lady 😃👍👍

  10. Consider teaching Holly some hand signals now when she can correlate the words to the hand signals. It will help as her hearing continues to decline.

  11. Ok, will transplant my 3 ft tall Jade Butterfly Gingko this spring. Don’t want to lose it. Was wondering, so thank you.

  12. We definitely regret having downsized our yard space. We had an acre and downsized to .31 lot….now that we both got the garden bug the yard is for sure small. We are starting to do underplantings now and building up mounds so we e can go vertical and using smaller plants in pots that we can enjoy then share with friends. So our garden is always evolving and has interesting plants that way.

  13. I look forward to these Sunday videos. They inspire me to observe and appreciate nature, both in and out of my own garden. I have several neighborhood cats that hunt my garden. Mostly it’s helped with voles. I have a great population of birds that still thrive, and I’ve not found any dead, though I have found dead voles.

  14. Hello, Jim and Stephany and all the gardeners friends 😀. Thank you for the updated on winter gardening.

  15. Thanks for spreading the word on inorganic fertilizers and giving the boot to problem plants….why take time to decrease leaf spot on a plant that will never look great….life is too short!

  16. Jim- Do you think my Alliums will still bloom next year? I've recently planted Allium bulbs (late spring/summer-blooming) here in Z8a and most have already sprouted leaves. I waited until late Nov but maybe soil has been warmer than typical. Bulbs were planted 4-5 in deep. Will leaves die back over the winter and flower buds survive? Should I have waited until mid-winter to plant these?

  17. Would you trim back slow-growing Carex like Evergold in late winter or just let them do their thing?
