We always hear about different planning methods, irrigation, etc. But what if we took a step back and looked at the REALLY BIG picture about why we grow food? We’d think long term about what we eat, how we eat, and how we want our space to all work together. So grab some headphones and let’s reverse engineer this upcoming gardening season for maximum productivity!

  1. I have so much advice on buying a house. So first off…..😂😂😂 jk!! Great advice on freezing things cant believe I didn't think of peppers and onions being pre chopped and frozen I lost so many bells because they went bad in fridge. Also full disclosure I am so bad about growing things I don't eat but learned quickly that neighbors love free veggies 😋 anyways great video I need that canning book lol

  2. So glad to see you’re back! Super excited to see your new garden ventures with the new home! Still in ATX?

  3. Crop rotation can be really important with an in ground garden. I few years ago in my old house, I grew okra a couple of years in a row, then planted cantaloupes. The cantaloupes always seemed to need water, even when soil was moist. Watered every day, even twice a day with a soaker hose. Finally made 3 melons. When I pulled up the vines, the roots were riddled with nematode scars. Then I got the water bill in, cost $45 more than the month before. The cantaloupes were good, but not $15 per melon good. Found out that okra is a nematode magnet. You can usually get by not rotating as much in a raised bed due to all the organic matter in the soil. And I have been guilty of planting things that no one in the family likes. I have 5 jujube trees and no one in my family likes them. Neighbors like them but if I get poked with their thorns one more time bending over to weed, they may all come out.

  4. The garden I planned on a new property seven years ago turned into a completely different oasis I have today. Then, I just planned a veggie garden and an herb spiral. Now? I've converted most of my backyard lawn to garden, with paths, a hugel, a vertical garden ect. You'll plant, learn, keep most of it, change some of it and keep growing. Honestly, the learning and the process is my favorite. I'm sorry you are stressed about it! I hope once you see your land, the excitement will completely take over. Very few things can't be changed if it doesn't work.

Also, I am making tamales for the first time this weekend, wish me luck!

As always, thanks for taking the time to make a video.
