Today’s video is a bit different. Through the story of my friend Eva (who created a garden from scratch with a very low budget and zero gardening knowledge) we look at the steps you need to take to start a garden. We take a plot of land, burned to a crisp by the sun and over the course of only 2 growing seasons turn it around. If your budget is low you might not be able to attain instant gratification but you sure as heck can map it out, divide it into gardening rooms and start planting. Two years ago not even a weed was growing it was that hot and barren. Now with 7 trees planted, irrigation installed and hedges growing like crazy you can sit out in the garden and enjoy it.
Eva is every teacher’s dream pupil. She soaks up knowledge like a sponge and has gone from a person who could not differentiate two such iconic flowers such as the daffodil and the tulip to a person who can identify not only what she has in her garden but a whole lot more as well. She buys plants based on soil type and location and not just on whether it is pretty, because on a low budget that is important. She now does her own pruning, application of insecticide and fungicide, treats for chlorosis and can even install and repair irrigation systems. I don’t know whether I am more surprised with the evolution of the garden or the evolution of Eva herself!
You will also see our “Doggy Family” (The Pack). We make quite a statement on our daily walks! I am really looking forward to seeing Eva’s garden grow and thrive and see those tree canopies give much needed shade to a south facing garden in a Spanish summer.
