Welcome back to The Green Yard! In today’s video we discuss what is known as the Queen of fruit trees in the Phoenix desert, a Mulberry Tree. In the green yard we currently have only one female variety of Mulberry, which is our Pakistan Mulberry. These trees are native to Pakistan and have become a fruit staple in the Middle East and throughout Central Asia. These trees are unique in the size of their mulberries, which are typically between four to six inches in length. They are said to be the largest mulberries grown. Our Pakistan Mulberry tree is located in the front yard of The Green Yard. This area is just on the other side of the Food Forest part of The Green Yard and the goal is that this tree will provide shade and protection to any future tropical trees planted around our Koi fish pond. In this video I go through the amendments that I add, the ease of growing Mulberries in the Phoenix Valley and the confusion between illegal and legal Mulberry trees.

  1. That is strange you have gotten no fruit this past spring. Not to scare you, but my Pakistan's leaves look significantly different. I hope yours isn't the root stock?
