I have never understood why Justin does not use permanent fencing. I know now !! Makes sense for his situation, growing up with cattle, we always had permanent paddocks and life seemed a lot easier. Justin, I use to live in the mountains of New Mexico. Our home took 21 cords of wood a year to heat. I also use to work for the Arizona Forest Service thinning trees. I've even helped fight a couple of forest fires. Just wanted to let you know that I do have some experience in this field and the reason for this comment is to suggest that all that lumber that you have cut down and put on the side of the road that you move to a different location as soon as possible. The reason for that is is that is a forest fire red flag. All of the thinning out and opening up the pastures that you're doing is absolutely fantastic. Because not only helps you with more grazing land but it also helps cut down on overgrown Forest that can get out of hand really quick when they're overgrown.
I totally understand that with over 70 acres of wooded forest that it's going to be a huge overwhelming task, but the forest around your home is unbelievably thick and overgrown. At this point any forest fire that starts on any part of your property is going to take out everything. Tree thinning is an absolute must and as you have said it will help you with your wood supply and wood chips. Another thing that tree thinning also helps with his predators. Absolutely love overgrown for us because that gives them plenty of places to hide.

We're currently looking into smaller generators after what happened to Texas in 2021 and the deep freeze of 7 days. Also looking to get deep freezers to store whole pigs and half cows. I totally get what he explains.
You need to get online and find some horse-drawn stump-pullers to show Lily. Let the horse earn its keep.
