There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door.     November 16 is also my oldest son's birthday. He was gift from God. We were told it was unlikely to be a successful pregnancy most likely would loose the baby. But to everyone's surprise he went full term and was born health at 9 lbs 3 ounces and will be celebrating his 13th birthday tomorrow. We also have have a small homestead and he loves helping his old man out in the garden.

    🥳 Happy Birthday Chicky!! Loving the shark tank Miah!! I like black paint, but if you don’t mind me saying, your greenhouse is a bit too black. Have you thought of using another color with it so it’s not so black? I think it has you a little bit depressed. Take care in all this weather!

    December 16th is also my daughter-in-law's birthday, and I thank God every day for her. We have a special surprise planned for her 50th Friday and knowing this is yours, too, I will also be thinking of you on that day. Happy 37th! Oh, those were the days.

    Happy Birthday Jess!! I very much appreciate the thoughts that you have shared while in the greenhouse today. There are many things that you shared that my wife and I have talked about and feel lead by the Spirit of the Lord to do and while out time has not come yet, I strongly feel that it will come some day. I 100% agree that between now and that time all I need to do is the next right thing. I also just watched your recently posted kitchen video and your comments about being a being a good steward with the things you have been entrusted with fit so beautifully with the things you shared here.   24. Our Roots Run Deep Homestead

    4 years ago we lived in a different state. In a place we could barely afford to live in. We took a giant leap. We moved somewhere that we didn’t know a single person. We didn’t have a community but we could just feel it, see it. It was a place to grow. Fast forward 2 years and we bought our first house. We were so convinced it wouldn’t happen. That the rug would be pulled out from under us. The day we moved in was when we really started to believe. Believe that we were being led somewhere. Two years later we bought a different house, with land, and we have chickens, and pigs and Marshmallow the guardian dog😂. We have a big garden and are eating through this winter on the food we prepared all summer. We have such big plans and I don’t know where we will go but I know it will be big! This December 16th I will celebrate all of those who are doing the next thing. The little things that make up the big things. I will take a moment to acknowledge my blessings and give out blessings to anyone who is here listening to your words and taking the next step. 4 years really isn’t that far at all. 💚

    Hi, Jess and a very Happy Birthday to you! You are always a pleasure to watch. Miah, too.

    I’m 71 and always wanted a place to have a garden. For decades, I tried on a small scale, but I finally gave up trying to grow in the ground because of the moles, the root knot nematodes and the encroaching roots from the neighbors’ trees. And my back is not so great, either. So, this past year, I bought some Earthboxes and was very pleased, so I just bought more, making a total of nine. I have hopes for a nice bounty next year!

    Here is a turnip recipe for you that we really enjoy. It sounds horrible on paper, but it is fresh and crunchy with just the right balance of tangy and sweet. I hope you will try it!

    Turnip Salad

    Ingredients:

    Salad:

    • 4 medium turnips (raw), peeled and chopped

    • 1 bunch (about 3) green onions, chopped

    • 2 green apples, chopped

    • 4 pineapple slices, chopped

    Dressing:

    • 1/2 c. sugar

    • 1/4 c. salad oil

    • 1 T. water

    • 1 t. salt

    • Black pepper

    Directions:

    Chop the salad ingredients into 1/4" pieces.

    Mix fruit and vegetables in a bowl. Mix dressing and pour over chopped fruit and vegetables. Let stand overnight in refrigerator. Stir before serving.

    Happy birthday today is mine too. I never comment im more of a watcher. But ive thought more than once that maybe something in you manufactured home is off gassing and triggering your autoimmune problems

    Buttered roast turnips with rosemary = YUM! I also cube them up to boil with the greens, especially if I don't have a lot of them. I'll often cook up the small batches and freeze to add to soups later.
