“If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.” -Anne Bradstreet

  1. Good job janey. I think its better for the birch tree to go.also that extra bag of soil u have u can use maybe in ur oak bed area as top mulch or something. Merry christmas my friend.take Care.please dont feel bad on ur mess.mine is worst.😊

  2. Janey, you made great progress on decluttering your side yard, that area looks 100% better. Yes, I think you are absolutely right about the birch tree probably needing to be removed before another large limb falls on someone or something.
I store my chicken wire, hardware cloth, wire cutter, garden twine, shorter garden stakes, and miscellaneous plant support items in a garbage can (with wheels). It's easy to move around the garden, plus it keeps those supplies corralled in my garage.
I couldn't help but giggle when you said it's extremely cold, then later you mentioned it's 47 degrees. I'm in zone 5a, and that actually sounds quite lovely for December, since the ground is frozen solid here. Blessings to you and your family! ~Margie🤗🎄☃❄

  3. 25 degrees here in PA. We lived in our one house for 29 years. Talk about having a lot of stuff. It’s always great to get organized .

  4. Hi, Janey — This is real life, and as gardeners, we all have cluttered areas from time to time like this!! A few suggestions — why not combine the raised bed soil with some of your compost, and store some of it in another container? That way, you can use some of it now, and still have some of it for later. Combined with the compost, it doesn't go to waste. Also, for your garden tour, I can envision a nice potting bench in that area, that has storage underneath for a few pots, your chicken wire, etc. That would give you a nice space to do some potting, aside from your greenhouse, when it's too hot to go into the greenhouse. Positioned correctly in that area, you could make a vignette, which looks more intentional, and would really "pop" for your tour next year. A pair of garden gloves, a pot, a watering can on top, a sun hat and sunglasses, and it becomes a focal point. The bins can be placed in such a way to accent the area. Along with the removal of the tree, and your steppingstones, I think this area can really become nicely integrated. Even the chair you have, with a cute sign next to it that says "rest stop," it creates the feel of well-curated area. Even a small awning over your potting bench, coming off of your house, gives it a sense of flair and intentionality. Hope you don't mind all these ideas!! Love your channel!!

  5. I think you are right tree needs to go. But you should keep all the wood if it looks ok. You could use it to decorate .

  6. I bet there isn't a gardener in the world that doesn't have more plant pots than they know what to do with, my hand is raised. I think it's a good idea to use that soil in the cut garden, maybe see what your neighbor thinks too.

  7. Oh yes I totally understand the decluttering. My husband and I were in the military, he served I did not, we moved several times and we did the same. Now we have been in our house for 12 years we have had a couple of my husband's family members died . More stuff. So we are going to get rid of a ton of stuff this year.

  8. You store chicken wire roll in an assessable corner in the garden or green house/shed so that you have it for your large cut flower garden. Also the bagged soil that you do not like you could mix in your gardens or large cut flower garden and that would be not a waste of money. How do you know what will work for you if you don't try. Enjoy the rest of your day.

  9. You got a lot done! Most of us have areas where we put things and have to spend time deciding what to do with things. Love your videos! 🎄🎄🎄🦩

  10. Wow great job! Did you think about some smaller type storage sheds for the smaller things, looks like you have room for sure for 2 or 3 and that would make it look decluttered and organized and still keep a bunch of things you need

  11. Great video! I’ve been simplifying our home also. We have a small home also. Look up the minimal mom on YouTube. She’s great!

  12. Good job with the cleanup! It’s 40 degrees here in Ventura County (Moorpark) – too cold for this native Californian🥶

  13. 47 sounds chilly to me. If the tree is dropping large branches when it isn’t windy you should definitely have it removed. The area looks tidy. Have a wonderful day.
