When I lived in Germany on the highest mountain the temperature for the summer never got higher than the 50's and they still grow gardens. Get them to germinate and going, all is good. With us living in Tucson at the higher elevation we get colder and we have hard freeze warnings. I put their covers on them and the regular non LED twinkle lights under the covers we'd with them. It gives them the radiating heat to help keep them warm. So we will see how it all goes for my sweet bell peppers, my eggplants, tomato's and green beans. I still enen have a couple of sugar baby watermelon. LOL! I haven't been outside to check up on them since yesterday morning. I didn't want to release the heat that did build up under their warm covers. LOL!

We're down on the minus degree numbers here in the high desert of Oregon. I envy your desert climate.
Unfortunately tarps keep plants in the dark..if u don’t want to have to keep going out everyday to cover and uncover….Have you thought about using clear sheeting or clear shower curtains….like the ones from dollar store. This will create a solar effect , allow photosynthesis and the frost won’t build on leaves
