New housing action plan being pushed forward by Mayor John Tory
A change in Toronto housing rules and regulations would allow for more multiplexes in residential neighbourhoods and more condo development along transit corridors. Legalizing rooming houses is also being proposed. Mark McAllister reports.
people wont mind if those government house actually help hard working canadians that are struggling , but we have a big population of welfare parasites who CHOOSE not to work, use BS excuses and bring down the community value by their bs
Why not sell your over 30 investment properties in Florida John? Being the mayor of a large city is a full time job, why are you working another 6 figure job at Roger's?
The housing market is a joke. Owners selling are asking too high, owners renting prices are high and not only that but they expect their tenants to make 3x the monthly rent before approving them(ex; a house that's 2,500, tenantsare expected to make 7,500 a month), even that's not enough. I've been looking for a 3 bedroom house, our real estate agent told us she has another client that makes 100k a year as a nurse, and she got rejected 4 different times in the past few months. These owners are cherry picking their tenants, and leaving the rest of us soon to be homeless.
As rich as this city is, more and more people are on the streets, it is in crisis mode, everyone regardless of they're income needs a roof over their heads. That being said, Tory needs to be very careful about the rooming houses. Issues have already started, tenants are not vetted and when that happens you end up with a whole new set of problems, which become our problem because when you complain it's ignored by the City and Police.
Notice how fast things move when THEY want more housing, how many people have been denied permits to build due to some bylaw or zoning! Once again politicians think Toronto is where all the housing needs to be, in βruralβ Ontario, just try to get a permit to sever a lot and build!
Half wit half assed solution. In human and animal populations, higher density causes the social problems we are already struggling to deal with.Gas on a fire.
The construction of buildings, houses or just any type of construction takes forever. The sooner they obtained the occupancy permit the sooner they generate revenue. Don't they want it ?? Let alone insufficient housing help pushing up the home prices and rent. Don't they have the will or planning to match housing with the population ? What were the census for ? So far, still no mention about catching up with the demand of RGI senior apartments where applicants' waiting list is for 7 – 10 years !! Did they expect shorter and shorter life expectancy ???
You know if affordable housing is such a problem, maybe stop building the buildings that have only 40 units in them and instead build ones that are literally just a room, a bathroom and a bedroom and stop with the balconies, the fancy amenities and make these places CHEAP so that you can actually have people not spend 2/3rds of their paychecks on rent alone. Put a rent cap in place for certain building types as well.
Thank you Mayor John Tory. Radical housing change does not have to be a drastic detriment to existing rental markets. In fact, implement creative design into innovative minimized space and you can maximize livability thresholds. 'Using the foundation principle pillars of form, function and design what now, has emerged is the answer already and available. The mother of invention found necessity in the Tiny House model. Just as Elon Musk has created his space age, futuristic module Boxable. This can be assembled in his construction facilities in a day and can be delivered throughout the world. There are small home designers also, here in Ontario bringing their talents to markets. The housing codes and permits must allow, as you have made clear, to meet the people's immediate needs and be implemented with Canadian emergent needs as priority. Small scale homes using a smaller footprint without losing a home's integral functionality is key. Maximization of efficient low impact requirements average water, heating, electrical now will use and cost a fraction of normal previous rates. The future is here and if we are willing to meet this new chapter of new challenges, then we must implement new ideas to address the basic needs everyone requires. It is housing, clean water, healthy affordable food, warmth and the rest in knowing well being is rooted here. It creates the overall security to live and thrive. Create a home for everyone plan, this can be done…and the time is now.
If they essentially zone out single family homes over the long term Toronto will just have ghettos and condo corridors. This plan is just a corruption scheme for developers.
This is the only trick these guys know: getting rid of regulations and citizen input so that rich developers can run amuck. Meanwhile, what we really need is NON-MARKET HOUSING.
John Tory is untrustworthy in my opinion, I would like to see an investigation into his bank accounts and family members too.All politicians bank accounts should be transparent (family too).

Does Good Toronto Mayor John Tory agree that vaccines are the medical, logical and moral definition of sin?
The great reset in action.
Single family homes have been declared bad by the globalist.
But it takes dictatorship to implement.
I may not agree by the mayor's power but is a good day when NIMBYS are finally out of power ππ½ππ½ππ½ππ½

Housing? This clown let 1000s of people lose their homes this summer at Swansea Mews. That was allowed to fall into disrepair on HIS watch.

I'm homeless as of today.
Covid destroyed me.
"house-ing"
but not one you buy for a family to live in.
one you rent while you live on welfare
Being pushed forward. ππππ. Probably bought their cement/concrete from China too.

follow the money, when a mayor signs any housing, they get a bag of money, Nenshi got a Bag of money here in Calgary, Watson got a Bag in Ottawa
