Hi folks and welcome to this weeks vlog. This week is all about surviving the deep freeze hitting the uk this weekend. We have been waking up to a white world for the past few days.
So this week I’ve been working hard to mulch up the dahlias and harvest the yacon and machua.
I’ve also got a Flossie update for you too.
I hope you are keeping warm this week and will enjoy the vlog,
Take care,
Sarah

I go for a foam solid wheelbarrow wheel/tyre. Many "purists" will foo foo this saying "they don't grip" etc etc. Well mine does and I am not trying to push it up the Matterhorn LOL
So glad Flossie has improved! Good news. I'm watching you and the snow is gently falling here in southern Scotland. Its blooming freezing out there. I havent been to my allotment, I'm too scared lol. I did try to fleece a lot of stuff until I ran out, but the ice is so bad. I mulched my dahlias last year and they came up ok. Hope it works again and for you. Have a lovely week, enjoyed the vlog as always. 🥶🐔
Plenty of snow here today, Sunday 11th in Gloucestershire ☺
Glad Flossie is doing well, lovely update on the plot. I need to try and source some manure. We have had quite heavy snow today. I have so many plans for my new plot and atm I am on the lookout for a shed.
Glad Flossie is feeling and looking better. Good news. Really must get myself a wheelbarrow as I borrow my allotment neighbours when I need to. Plan to grow dahlias next year and buy some tubers in the summer. Any variety that you recommend?
Hi Sarah, nice vlog. Glad that Flossie has improved. Its been a strange year with the really hot weather and now being extremely cold, I bet you can’t wait for spring when you can start sowing seeds again. Will you be making your own Christmas wreath for your front door again this year? Also do you have a real Christmas tree? I hope you have a good week, and stay warm. Take care. 🙂
snow in Co.Durham Sarah, not alot I can do on my plot pleased Flossie improving. Steve
if you move your comfrey bed,i'm afraid you wont get rid of the old one. the roots go really deep…………………brian
Maybe get a gorilla cart/wagon with a dump feature. I love mine and I hate trying to lift wheelbarrows. Great video
Hi Sarah was just looking at all the clippings of dahlias. You could mulch with compost then put the clippings back on top for extra mulch you can just clear the clippings that havnt rotted down away in the spring when it’s warmer. Just an idea.
Ask Santa for a wheelbarrow or new tyre👍
Ahhh Sarah I look forward to your blogs you help to keep me going. I pleased flossy has improved. We have just had 5 days of hard frosts white everywhere constantly and yesterday we had snow. We went to plot for veg for dinner and it was freezing. The brassicas are drooping and my tree cabbage looks as if it might rot I hope not as we depend on that for winter food along with the kale and sprouts. Your celeriac is amazing and as mash it’s delish alternative to potatoes mashed. I not sure we will grow oca again but Jerusalem artichokes are delish. Soon be time for sowing peas and Bedfordshire champion onion seeds for planting out in march. Then in January the seed sowing starts and it’s go go go.👍
I always feel the plot looks a mess this time of year but everything is mulched or has stuff growing in it with a few weeds obviously. Comparing with most around me who only grow summer veg so their land is cleared and dug old school. So I not gonna worry as I know my ground is heaving with health ready for new crops.👍
Did you only plant one tuber of Nashua?
So envious of that “black gold” you have! Looks like lovely stuff and your dahlias will love you for it next year too! Glad you got them all mulched before the snow hit Sarah. You’re like me…..those dahlias are so important to us! 😁💪🏼I love how you grow unusual veg too……be interesting to see what you do with machua….I’ve never heard of it before. Fab update! Have a good week ahead! Will 🌻
Ohhhh minute 1 a steaming pile what every girl wants 😂😂. My nana never dug up hers when we lived in Manchester. Lots going on still it’s very cold and foggy here so I’m watching vids. I’m getting a new 2 wheel barrow for Xmas 🎄. Have a fantastic week Sarah and family 🐝 safe keep warm ❄️🎄🧑🎄⛄️
The mashua looks very interesting. You must let us know how it tastes. I might put it on my list for next year.
I’m very impressed that you manage to keep your allotment running smoothly on your own as it seems like a very large plot. Is it one or two? I struggle with a plot half the size so hats off to you.
