Cardboard is such a good idea! Thanks Gary!
I start seeds on a shelf set on 2 small tables. Above hung from metal pipes, 2 grow lights in my living room.
I can alternate the height of the lights as plants grow.
I may try a mat this year.
Thanks for the advice.

Thanks Gary, Along with doing my seed germ I also use 3 heat mats in the cold winter months for my outside large worm bin, Keeps them toasty warm.
Watching while waiting for the livestream to start! These are important heat mat tips – not every seed type! Not cool weather plants! Important to distinguish between mats on 24/7, and lights on for 18 hrs/day. Using cardboard under the heat mats will save money by preventing loss of heat through the bottom!. Great short, direct info!
Than you, I'll be trying heat mat for the first time this year for tomatoes and sweet pepper seeds. I'm expecting transplants in spring 2023 to be very expensive!
You know, this is the hypocrisy of the plant lobby: All year round the trumpet their values about sustainability and whatnot, but given half a chance (e.g. an in-use container that seems better suited for another sapling) then a good and healthy plant will quickly end up in the JLF tub. C'est la vie, my friends!
I've never used heat matt's. But I have a heated garage to start seeds
Wow never thought of this but it makes sense
Does the heat mat cause you to water more often?. Dry up the soil?
Curous why you have these seedlings now. Obviously, you've been growing these a while. In zone 6, we are going to start planting seeds indoors in January to go into the greenhouse some time in March. You're seedlings seem very early. Curious…..?
