Mistakes Are Made Every Year. Especially in my garden! Over water, under water, too much sun, too much shade…the list goes on and on. Everyone makes mistakes, but its the really keen grower that takes those missteps as learning experiences and levels up their gardening game as a result.
So today, I’m taking my top 5 biggest gardening mistakes from this season, explaining why and how they happened, and vowing to learn from it so I never make them again!

I have a lot of clay. Have you heard and what are your thoughts of using drywall to break up the soil? I believe it is supposed to work due to containing gypsum. We had a remodel this year and threw our left drywall in a portion of our garden. I didnt do the whole thing in case there’s some form of contamination or it doesn’t work as planned. I’ll keep you posted in a year or so.

My first year not know any better I put 6 butternut squash plants in my small garden. LOL. Rookie mistake. It was an invasion of mass proportions!
My bell peppers wouldn’t ripen this year so I brought them in and put them in a paper bag. Ripened good enough. Instead of fighting early frost for tomatoes, I cut down entire plants and brought them in. Hung them upside down and over two or three weeks half of them ripened really well for me and the rest were great for the chickens. God bless
Hi Jeff it's a wonder that anything can survive in the freezing weather. Great tips about the cheap compost and not leaving crops on the plants too long. Again thanks Maggie
Speaking of cheep compost, would you believe that I once found a pig's ear inside a bag of compost? That was a pretty gross discovery.
Guess what? I made the SAME mistakes! Go figure.😆

Thank you for your gardening tips. Yes, I have planted things I thought would bring more yield by leaving them in longer. Wrong. I never got my 🥕 in either. I need to read the planting average of each seedling I want to harvest. I certainly will follow your advice. Yes, using the right compost & water is very important. My hand is raised! 😒😒 Put me down for all of the above. I don't think I can do everything right..I expect just about everything to go wrong… That in itself is a problem. But I REALLY have to get over this over planting…My eyes are always bigger than my plate, and yeah..I end up with so much that I can't keep up with it all….Breathe IN and breathe OUT….Thanks, Jeff!

I am SO glad you brought up that mistakes can be our best teaching tool sometimes. Like when I first started gardening, I thought why thin seedlings? Three plants have to be better than one and then leggy starving seedlings showed me how wrong I was. Now I understand spacing and feeding the soil and picking the best seedling to survive and clipping the others in the pod. So many things I can't even list them all. Great video.
The drought was a lot and I underwatered my containers as well. Now we are getting a lot of rain in the winter.
