It’s time to start thinking about spring planting schedule. We will talk about carrots, beets, onions and your brassicas. We will need time to harvest and prepare soil for spring planting.
LOL….beverly boyce nailed it….busy bee. I have to take a nap after seeing what all you did yesterday!!! It sure looks good Jill. Can't hardly wait to see the progress of all those plants. They'll be beautiful I'm sure and taste delicious. I'll need to take a day and do my homework on planting dates…grab my last frost date for here. Try to get my act together. Have a great week and will see ya in the funny papers! Jesus bless.
I get those wall calendars with the big daily spaces on them, from the local dollar store. I count backwards from my proposed Spring planting dates so I know about when I need those planting areas freed-up. Then counting backwards to see the latest I can plant Fall/Winter crops. I leave some wiggle room to allow for weather and life-in-general. You are such a smart lady! Well done, sweet Jill. Looks so lovely.
Wow! Everything looks great and well planned! I haven't even started thinking about next year's garden and I better start! Haven't ordered seeds, done a map or anything. I am pretty far behind! I have to re-cover the greenhouse. I'm not sure if the tarp is going to hold up over winter. I expect some snow to get in 🙁 Not much I can do about it at this point. One of these days I will get started on this!
Garden looks great! Ours is moving along as well. We planted a little early this year late October. Amazing how your peppers are still going. God Bless, Mike
I always enjoy what you’re doing in the gardens. My 10×20’ “high tunnel” is 9.5’ tall at the peak. We put 28” raised beds 2’ tall down each 20’ side and have containers down the middle. Being that I’m in 7b and there’s never any way to predict what we’ll have temp-wise, especially in January & February—between a friend’s input and my husband’s ingenuity—we have 2-50 gl black barrels full of water, with stock tank heaters in them, to help heat it. So far, it’s keeping it above freezing even when it’s dropped to 25. I’m a bit giddy at going out to harvest veggies in December! Bok choy—some to cook fresh, dehydrated some—I left it in a state to grow more—I think/hope. A recipe at lunch today called for spinach—which I have growing! So amazing to go pick fresh instead of bumping that recipe until after my next trip to the store. Please keep coming at us because you inspire us. ❤
We're in Virginia zone 7A. Only thing I have in the raised beds are garlic and some onion in grow bags I'm trying to see if I can over winter for an early start next spring. I do have my raised bed SFG planner up and will be marking my squares and calculating when to ramp things up. Y'all keep planting and setting the example!
Spent the weekend making Christmas candies and cookies to share with friends and family cause you know I don't eat it! Looking forward to your Christmas cooking videos so I can get some ideas to share! Giving food this year.

Jill, do you guys eat ALL of this stuff, or do you have a market for it? That's a lot of brassicas. 😄😄

Being new to Texas gardening, and also in the North Texas area, your advice and experiences are particularly helpful.
#gardeninggoals 😊
I would love to make a high tunnel like you've done. How did you do it? And how much acreage does it take up?
It’s looking really great. You guys are hopping !! Looking forward to seeing your Christmas cooking videos with pops

Yes it is a beautiful morning, had my coffee on my back porch today. I also am about to start more seeds after the holidays.
Wow we havent even gotten through winter yet. You are way ahead Jill. Still hoping to get a greenhouse soon.

Love the updates Jill, helps me plan and follow along. Thanks for the comment about the carrots, mine seem to be taking forever (well beyond 100 days)
