Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we make more progress in renovating the original chateau gardens. We meet with a local organic fruit tree specialist who provides us with some answers to our gardening questions and we plant the first trees in our garden to replicate the style that once existed 400 years ago…
Our “beau chateau” (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!
As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!
You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

I was utterly drawn in to the conversation you had with the fruit tree specialist…wow, does he know fruit trees!!! He's so intelligent and I love that he's organic. Thank you so much for sharing. ox
Thank you for including the fascinating conversation with the apple tree grower. I have two apple trees and I never get it right when's best to pick them… now I know 😁
I would love to know that farmer's deer trick! We have the worst problem with deer and have tried everything!!!! They rub against our small trees and eat all our flowers. It is demoralizing (to say the least). If you find out the essential oils he uses, please share! It looks great guys!
I’m amazed with you two! You work so hard and I love all your finds!!!
Love this show! Can someone tell me why the 1600’s depiction of the garden and house do not line up with the current garden and house? Did part of the house burn down at one time?
Nice work, but did you account for the size of the cypresses at maturity? You may lose the definition and symmetry of the stonework when they grow up to or overgrow the stone boundary. I know they have a narrow/columnar habit, but they seem quite close to your borders. Your visualization technique with the bamboo was a great idea/teaching tool, but you could also use a cardboard cutout to help visualize the footprint of the plant. It really helps when laying out beds. As others have noted, I'm really glad to see you promoting permaculture and sustainability. Best of luck. Oh, and a note on flamethrowing weeds. If you buy a flamethrower/garden torch, be sure to check the BTUs. They vary widely. The average disposable (bad) lighter is 3000-3,500 BTUs, so that's a starting point when shopping. I bought a garden torch here in the States that is 500,000 at full blast. It is most satisfying to go out in the rain and torch. Can't wait to see your progress.

Un coucou du menuisier de de Gonneville sur Honfleur
Ont commence quand ou par quoi 🤔😉🤭
Une belle rencontre
Great work with the trees. Good yo see the progress.
I was just thinking how much more you could do with the right tools and machines for the the Château grounds. It would probably help your back and knees too. Best of luck with your big project 🥰
I love your program. PLS continue. Sture Gothenbourg
Thank you for the subtitles !! I struggled with the translation from French to American English !! Love these weekly videos 😘
I tell you that fruit tree guy was soooooo awesome! He is very knowledgeable and excited about his trees! He will be a good resource in the future as well!
The best video out there when comes to returning a home back to what it once was! Congrats!!
What a wonderful job you're both doing! Just love seeing your progress and you're both such hard workers! One day in the near future, you'll look back and reminisce over all the wonderful things you have achieved! Bravo! Love it all 🥰🤩🤗😘
A formal garden will really help with films and weddings
Fascinating farmer facts..makes mental notes of earwigs being beneficial and 3 week windows 🧐 Loving your posts 💕
In the old photo, the chateau appears to have a rounded shape at the corners…now it is square with an angle?
You both work so well together! Cheers, Doc ✌🏼
If you want to surpresse the weed lay cardboard on the ground and pin it down wit a bit of the much. That will work better then just the chippings.
I love your channel! You have an amazing opportunity to uncover history. When you showed the garden picture in the earlier days , I can see some difference on the structure of the building. Am I mistaking but there used to be 3 floors instead of 2?
You are just so strong you’re chateau is beautiful
Thanks so much for that lovely talk with the farmer. It was so informative. I’m making those little pots for my trees.
So nice to learn from the tree nurseryman. He was so knowledgeable. I learned a few things for my own fruit trees.:)
Great job guys, lots of work done! It’s looking really nice. I can picture all the trees in place.
oh my if there are cobblestone walkways under there! How stunning that would be. I know you don't want to dig anymore but what I would give to see if there is more there! If there is maybe hire some sod cutters to come out to save the back-breaking work!
You guys work hard tirelessly.
It's going to look really good once they are fully grown.
Good luck from Melb
Excellent video. Keep up the good work.
How exciting! You guys always find something unexpected! I love the Cypress trees! It’s fun to see the planting begin!
Love from Mary in Southern California 💗
a tip for the garden beds this is much easier and will supress the weeds way more effectively, lay cardbaord around all the beds you want covered then add mulch or manure/compost and it will be ready in spring for planting
Awesome finds
You are so cute and so beautiful, full of energy, ideas and strength. Thanks for sharing it with us!!!!! Loved the pepinieriste and his tree knowledge!!!!
Italian cypresses we’re the perfect choice
I truly love your channel. Look forward to it more than most of the Chateau channels. Something very special about yours. Archea is such a sweet girl and an excellent supervisor. 😉
Love your vlog!
I just subscribed to you. I am so pleased you want to keep your grandfathers dream. I renovated a little cottage and hope when i go to heaven my kids will keep it and love it. Its definately not a chateau but i love it like your pappy loved his "dancer". God bless you both. Ps my grandaughter is Daphne and its my favourite flower. I hope you plant some.Just bit by bit! Step by step! You have a lifetime! Enjoy each step
Hi. I'm really enjoying your videos. What a magnificent money pit you have. I saw a different YouTube chateau channel that they received a grant from Mission Stephane Bern to redo their roof. Have you looked into this to see if you qualify? Keep up the great work.
You need to hire a tractor with an augher to dig the holes. DEER ARE MY PROBLEM FOR MY TREES !
I just had a brainwave! Mint loves to " invade" !!! Try planting mint inbetween the stones so it invades the weeds! Then just trim it with a brush cutter rather than using vinigar. It will look and smell amazing. OR…fill the spaces with sand and concrete to seal the cobble. In the olden days cobble was sealed with tar in england…but you dont want that. Love to you both. Cynthia
As a french person, I love to hear the "pépiniériste" talking, he is very passionate !
Great vlog. Your Cypress trees will be magnificent! Love watching your adventure. Thanks so much for sharing with us!!!
