In September of 2021, the Paterson Museum Foundation initiated the first phase of a project to digitize the Paterson Museum’s collection of over 8,000 glass plate negatives. While over two-thirds of that collection have now been digitized, that is only one-step toward the long-term preservation and increased access to this collection.
In this presentation, Garside will briefly explain the process taken to preserve the collection and detail future plans, before sharing approximately 80 images that have been rediscovered. Part of the motivation for this program was for audience assistance identifying local people and places from the 1900-1920s. Whether you are an architecture buff, a genealogist or a Patersonian looking to walk down memory lane, this program will have something for you!
This lecture was part of the Paterson Museum Foundation’s Speakers Series. The program was presented by Paterson Museum Curator, Heather Garside on November 22nd, 2022, via zoom.
The Paterson Museum Foundation is the non-profit partner of the Paterson Museum, working with the Museum to help further its mission. Programming, such as this, is one of the Foundation’s many projects. To learn more about the Foundation, and to donate, visit www.patersonmuseumfoundation.org

Amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing! It was fun seeing the old photo of my grammar school, PS 21!!!
Wonderful project immortalizing Paterson's history through photographs. Each image challenges the imagination to seek and think about the details of those days long gone bye. Just curious about the scanning. What resolution were they scanned at? Would love to know. Also if they are copyrighted. Thank you.
