This summer we created a japanese garden and tea room where our pool used to be . Its very relaxing and a great way to view the gardens and birds (esp hummingbirds, goldfinches, chickadees, butterflies, kings hawkmoths, bats..etc….We use mostly native plants ,perrenials, and some annuals, vegetables and sunflowers throughout the yard… Many varieties of fruit trees, berries, native deciduous and evergreens encourage a natural feeling and harmonious peace. We want to encourage people to give their yard back to the flaura and fauna that existed before it was inhabited by people. The payback is serene!

BUT YOU GAVE UP A POOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
admire your effort and the zen area is quite nice ….if it was my project I would loose the deck and put a japanese style gazebo on the ground over more gravel and perhaps a granite or a river rock gurgler…the idea of having people looking down on a japanese landscape is not japanese and makes the place to busy…
nice job, now I feel stupid just planting more grass where the pool used to be, a missed opportunity.
