We finally cleaned out the greenhouse-it was a mess! I convinced Matt to help me clean out one flower bed too. Then we did one of our favorite things to do in the mountains of Appalachia—sit by the woodstove and warm.

We have a stove that burns anthracite coal. I buy it in 40 lb bags…two tons per year, two pallets. It comes out of eastern PA. I start with wood and switch over once hot enough. The coal requires less tending and last all night. Anthracite burns 90 percent efficient and is not that dirty. We burn about 2 bags a day. We stay nice and warm here in Ohio.
Its so comforting listening to y'all. Thanks
Thankyou for yet another lovely video. Christmas is not quite the same , losing the “ Rock “ makes it different. I enjoy watching your marvellous lives. We have lots in common. 🥰🇬🇧🎄
Tipper,🧉🍞🧀 your video visits are my supper-time relaxation.
And your foods add to my own edible pleasures! I really like grilled cheese, (someday soon I will add a sprinkle of sugar) sandwiches with hot chocolate sipping on the side!
With the way time flies spring will be here & you'll be using the greenhouse to start seeds again. 😃 It was interesting to hear the talk about coal heating vs. wood I imagine that would be messy. 🤪 Your talks by the woodstove are enjoyable.
Tipper, I'm one of those who is basically alone – it's just me & my son who is 16. You know teenagers! He's always either gone if with his buddies or in his room studying (makes straight As, so I don't complain) But I know Christmas Day will be like Thanksgiving Day – I'll make a sandwich and spend the day watching YouTube and the TV. So thank you for allowing me to be a part of your tree decorating and your Thanksgiving video! Can't wait to see your next video! Much love to you, Matt. The twins & your whole family!!! From me in North Georgia (almost Appalachia)
I've never heard of putting sugar on grilled cheese. My Mama used to say her Daddy loved poppies, and he would "sow the seed on the snow."
That was cool…thanks for having us 🍞🧀☕🔥🙏
I love Tipper and her family. I like to follow along like I am one of the fam. We are all family in Christ 😉
You're so right about Christmas making you remember loved ones. I never had a family of my own and because my age and some unfortunate events most of my loved ones are gone. I am estranged from the rest. I have not celebrated a holiday of any kind for about a decade. I do still love saying merry Christmas. Around were I live it's very frowned upon to say it. So that makes me smile to remind them of the tradition. If they don't like it they can lump it
My mom was deep Southern W Va thru and thru. They were so broke they had to save up to be poor! Well , my mom always sprinkled sugar on top the cheese of
a grilled cheese. My wife made me a grilled cheese one day and I asked her where the sugar was. She looked at me like what are you talking about! So Matt got the right idea with the sugar.
I got teary eyed with you when talking about this time of year and long gone families. I am the only one in my family left except my mother who is under hospice and in the nursing home. Hard to believe all the years that have gone by. I’m so blessed to have my own family and look forward to having them all coming home in 2 weeks. ❤❤❤
You've almost made me sleepy and I have work to do also. Enjoyed take care and God bless
I love your videos! I feel like I'm visiting my mothers people in West Virginia when I watch your videos. From the food to the stories, you are my kind of people. Keep up the awesome videos!
I grew up with central heat but now I have a woodstove and that’s my only heat source and I like it so much better… But honestly if I had the money I’d put an HVAC system in just to have that little bit of heat in the morning until I can get the fire built lol. I have never tried sugar on grilled cheese and I put sugar on a lot so I’m gonna have to try it… And the middle of that cross cut saw would look awesome on yawls porch or up over a doorway things like that to me are just so beautiful because of the history behind them and like you said people really had to work hard, not like us with our handy-dandy chainsaws which I’m very thankful for 🙂
Have you ever had a grilled cheese with tomato on it! To my surprise it was good.
Tip I enjoy listening to you and your family talk .
Really enjoy your videos . Merry Christmas .
It's tenderloin to my family in south cental MO.
My NC grandmother made me a grilled cheese with sugar one time years ago. I thought it was the weirdest thing I'd ever tasted and didn't like it at all! I've never heard of anybody else eating it like that. She also made Russian tea at Christmas. I loved that! I haven't had any in a long time. I think I'll try your recipe this year. Thank you for these videos!
If the poetry book is original work, maybe you can publish it and give the proceeds to charity. I would certainly buy a copy! and more copies for people I know who would enjoy it …
I agree with what you said I only have two cousins and one aunt that I ever get to chat with. My family has, for the most part, passed away. I enjoy watching these videos. I feel like I'm getting to visit with you folks. We are from the same "tribe".
I love all your videos, but the ones with you and Matt are the best!
Our house is 125 years old. We still have the original coal shoot in the basement where the coal was delivered in the basement😁. We now have central heating.
Are you going to ask granny anymore questions about her life? I like listening to videos like that.
In northeast Alabama, we call it tenderloin, too. You both are sweet. Thank you for caring about your virtual family. It means a lot to me since my children live away from me. You are so precious.
Was you a member of the National Guard Matt? only reason i ask is your pants say military all over the place.
It is actual just called the loins but it is different names for different places as you say.
The best crunchy dill are the baby dills of course
Years ago , coal would be shipped in every town by trains, and men would shovel coal from the train cars as a living year around. That was in the midwest states all over.
Congrats on 200k! Ya’ll deserve it! Good folks!
My grandparents had a coal stove in their beer joint, back in the 80’s. My mom and dad lived in an apartment over that bar, when they were first married. Mom absolutely hated the film, coal left on everything. We are from a coal mining town in West Virginia.
Everything holds a history.
Sometimes you run across something you don't know the history of, but your wish you did.
Can’t have a grilled cheese without a dill pickle. Just ain’t right. Agreed. 👍🏻
Going to try the recipe. Thanks!
And by the way, you’ve got a goodun’ lady.
Oh my – I just came across one of your videos today and just watched a third one and subscribed. I am hooked, lol! You are both great, and cute together, it really is like we're there visiting. Thank you and God bless. 🙂
I think of the people in So. Carolina with power outages right now. I'm grateful I have a gas cookstove (the next best thing to your wood stove!). lol
