    I think the easiness of oil based fertilizers have made us forgotten how to farm. Before oil fertilizers and insecticides we wonder if we did what JIM IS DOING ALREADY. AS oil skyrockets and fertilizer costs are eating into profits, JIM MAY BE THE FUTURE, or is it remembering our past?

    That method of planting leeks deep is the traditional way here in uk,it works well here,but no dig gardeners are changing to group planting the Charles dowding way,I'm very impressed with your methods and results.

    Just walking out your door and already working is the best feeling ever. NO stress of a 8 – 4pm….. am a lettuce farmer doing 4 beds @ 224 heads per bed with 7 days interval between harvesting, man I tell you, life could only get better.

    Does using good sized woody mulch mean you don't get compressed soil where you walk in the growing areas ? Spreading the load ? good resilient soil structure ?

    Jim, I never see insect cover on your brassica beds. do you have problems with insects eating those plants? if so , how do you address the problem?

    How do you control bugs, I live north of Jim in Tavares, Florida and the bugs eat everything we try to grow.

    Did he say that he starts the seeds in compost?
    In germany a lot of people start seeds in extra low nutrients earth but it didn t seem to work for us
