Landscape design styles using small architectural forms! 90 ideas!

When choosing small architectural forms for a garden or cottage, it is important that the created composition be harmonious. The unity of style is one of the main requirements for the arrangement of a garden plot. But this does not mean that all objects should have the same design or be only wooden or forged. With the help of small architectural forms, several styles can be combined on one square.

The integrity of the image is also created taking into account:
1) proportional ratios of elements installed in the garden, available on the site of plant compositions — small flower beds, for example, are combined with low bridges, benches, small fountains, and among the apple trees near the house you can put a high pergola;
2) zoning of the territory — gazebos are appropriate in the recreation area, lanterns along all paths on the site, and green hedges anywhere;
3) the expediency of using objects of the appropriate type — on a site with wooden buildings and a country-style landscape, it is better not to put garden statues made of concrete or openwork arches, and ceramic decor or a pergola of strict shape will be appropriate.

The existing styles are conventionally divided into three groups — landscape, formal and modern. Each has many separate varieties, but for the arrangement of the site it is enough to use objects, trends, bright details related to one of them on one territory.

Formal styles
They are characterized by strict geometry and straightness, stone and concrete, as well as light natural shades. It is better to choose traditional sculptures, simple gazebos, the central part of the garden can be decorated with a large sculptural composition, and in the recreation area to put support structures for climbing plants, for example, an arch or a lattice.
This landscape group is suitable for a garden plot with a design in Italian or French styles. Therefore, such elements are suitable for decoration: man—made water objects, high curbs, cascades, columns, forged lanterns — for the French direction; wooden platforms, flower beds, sculptures along wide alleys, including objects with ancient Roman symbols, flowerpots – for the Italian direction.

Landscape styles
Their peculiarity is naturalness and imitation of wild nature. Elements of a free outline, without strict forms, are suitable. All objects need to be skillfully inscribed into the existing landscape, without disturbing its harmony, but complementing and hiding unattractive details. Decorative grottos, slides, arches look good. Natural textures and shapes are suitable for the design of the plot.

Modern trends
These are styles with bright images, eye-catching details and color accents. Such small architectural forms are often minimalistic, have non-standard shapes and are functional. Boldness and unconventionality are the main signs of a group of styles, but each has its own characteristics:
modern — strict forms, a minimum of detail when creating sculptures and other landscape design objects, wrought—iron gazebos, bridges and gates, green pergolas or tunnels, plastic, metal, modern materials;
country — natural materials, natural forms, rustic details, sculptures made of baked ceramics, untreated stone or wood, buckets, barrels, wicker fences, baskets for decoration or creating flower beds; minimalism,
hi-tech — abstract sculptures, simple shapes, silver and gray shades, metal containers for plants.

The rustic style is especially evident in the Dutch design of the garden. It is characterized by wells, carts, mills, rocking chairs and hammocks. Flower beds usually have geometric shapes and are arranged in an orderly manner on the site. Their rigor is diluted by the pastoral details of rural life. Bridges, gazebos, benches, lanterns and other small architectural forms complement and enliven the design of the site, make the territory comfortable and well-groomed. With their help, it is convenient to delimit the territory into zones. They are practical and diverse, so they are always needed in the country or in the garden.
