In 7 steps, we build a 1 Million dollar mountain bike park in our town in 3 to 6 months. In this video I’m going to tell you the invaluable process on how we got millions of dollars in bike parks paid for and built all throughout Missouri within a 3 year time-frame.

This isn’t a story of money being donated by a private person or some massive company either, this is how people like you and I can convince average cities to build million dollar bike parks.

To share this process, Im talking with Dave Coolio of GORC Gravity, who has spearheaded this process for every single one of these bike parks. He’s spoken at an ungodly amount of city meetings across the State and has shown council members and government officials time and time again why building a mountain bike park is the best thing they can do for their city. Something that normally takes 5 to 10 years to get approved, he is somehow doing in under 6 months every time.

And today, he and I will be sharing exactly how you can replicate what he does to show your towns that they need a bike park. We’ve got it boiled down to 7 steps, that I truly believe anyone can take and apply to their city or town and I highly advise that you listen to all of them because each step is extremely crucial for the success of getting a Mountain Bike park built and paid for in your town. If you’ve got questions after listening to this whole thing please comment below and I will get back to the most liked ones. Also, if you find this information useful please share the video so we can get more bike parks around the world! haha Now, let’s begin with step one.

Welcome to the official YouTube Channel of Backyard Trail Builds – Detailed videos on Trail Building 🛠

Hi, my name is Seth Gebel and I grew up in Catawissa, Missouri just outside of St. Louis. I’m very fortunate to have a playground of woods to build whatever I see fit in because Missouri riders don’t get much feature time. I’d love to change that! Hopefully, someday we’ll be able to push a build-along that benefits the public here in St Louis for MTB skills progression. For now, though, I build every weekend and film for you all to watch!
➡️ On this channel, you’ll find trail-building videos with music and step-by-step shots that keep you entertained and informed! Builds like road gaps, berms, jumps, drops, trail flow, skinnies, and many others!
Combining my love of mountain bikes, woodworking, and creating something from nothing, stick around to see just where my wild mind takes me next!
What started out as a passion project for building fun and exciting trails in my literal backyard, has grown into so much more. (Giant lizard bike jump, anyone?) Be sure to watch for builds, tips, and special offers each week.

If you love adventures and seeing wild and lofty ideas, come to life, subscribe to my channel for new videos every Sunday at 11 am Central! Hit that bell to never miss a video! 🔔

  1. This is exactly what I needed to see! As a bike shop owner and trail advocate, I have been working with my city currently on a single track trail. We are hosting our first local event there in two weeks from today to spark interest in the trail. It's not very polished, but being 100% volunteer work it's not bad at all. Sure could use some features like you build, as you encourage me so much with every video, and I hope one day soon I can knock one out. I sent this to our city maintenance manager in an email today so I hope my sales and this video give him some encouragement as well. A longer video would be huge but your content is always helpful and entertaining. Thanks!

  2. Even I am not from the US, I was able to pick some good points! We have already successfully established a small trail park. But did some mistakes… The most valuable point for me is to make the people from the local authorities understand, that we do not want land or money from them, but we want to show them how they can do something beneficial with “unused” land and get money back from invest or strengthens the local economy…👍🤝such an amazing video/interview!

  3. That’s a great video! I wish I knew a lot of this stuff 8 years ago when I started getting up and going what is now the 100km+ Wild Mersey trail network here in Tasmania, Australia.
Totally agree with all the steps that you listed.
I have another project on the go now which is to get local government to get involved with the Penguin mountain bike park, which in the past has just been a purely volunteer built park, but to take it to the next level we need government backing.
I’ll certainly be taking notes from this video!👍🏼

  4. It's great when there are different professionals in the country among which you can choose. For most of the world, the main question now is how to create such professionals.

We have a cycle of emergence and burnout of enthusiasts. People do not have time to enter the industry at a professional level.

  5. Great video, very perceptive, would love a more in depth video. Always great content!

  6. This is an important source of information for working with communities. The DNR has different expectations, and I would be interested in how to effectively work with the DNR's goals. Anyone know where to find this info?

  7. A big vid would be awesome, the more info that gets out there means potentially more trails being built.

  8. Yes! Graet topic on things I am currently working on. I am in the running to be chosen for the local recreation commission. Thanks for the info, and I would love a longer, in more depth, explanation.

  9. Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this. From an outsiders standpoint, GORC Gravity is so good at this stuff. Other groups should pay attention.

  10. I don’t even ride mountain bikes, but I really like this guy and the videos he makes. Seems like a genuine dude.

  11. what is the lowest vertical drop a Bike park should have. The local trail system only has around 200 ft of vertical drop, would you be able to build downhill trails with that?
