I probably over pruned my beauty berry bush. I limbed it up at least 4 feet not knowing that I shouldn’t do that. It has a bunch of purple berries at the top . What should I do to promote growth at the bottom? I am in Maryland, zone 7.
My question: I have worked very hard on a 1/4 acre terraced garden with flagstone walk and patio under sun and shade just north of Spartanburg, SC and I want to have a small wedding in it. Do you know of any specialists who could help me spruce it up for a special occasion? Added plants, hardscape, rocks, etc. I have looked at it so much I can't "see" it anymore. Is this something that you can do in your "consultation" appointments.
If you had the choice of three conifers ending up growing to 25 feet or so to plant in a grouping in an open 2-acre yard between house and road, what beauties would you choose? There are so many choices and I need advice.
I love it when you get tickled at your own jokes 😉
Question: I have a natural wooded area at the back of my property. It is unfortunately full of invasive Privet. Is there an easy way to get rid of it or is digging it up my only option? Also, what could I plant in place of it? (Northeast Ohio zone 6a)
Hi Jim, Love your channels!! I have been watching and learning for more then a year now. If I plant garlic bulbs in the same beds as my tulip bulbs will this keep the squirrels and chipmunks from digging to their hearts content?
Do you have a good source for Witch Hazel shrubs? What I see online and local to me is very pricey, over $100 each.
I have a spider mites problem I can't get rid of. I'm in Florida zone 10a. I think it's in one of the palms. We treated organically many times and finally a stronger systemic. No luck. We're thinking of topping off the tree and growing vines up to save tree trunk for the birds. Any great ideas on getting rid of spider mites in LARGE plam trees?
Question: what type of system do you use to keep track of what you’ve planted in your garden – pen and paper notebook, spreadsheet, software program, etc.? Big fan of your channel!
Have you guys been to Fairchild Botanical Gardens here in Florida? 😍 One of the best gardens in this part of the planet!
I just love Holly! Especially, when she's exploring your gardens while you're answering questions! Cracks me up every time. Love your channel too! 😁
Happy gardening!
Love your q&a and wisdom. New gardner in central Ohio, zone 6a, heavy clay soil. I planted small emerald green arbs, lilacs, Hydrengea, elderberry into small holes, no amendments or fertilizer. 4years later, they don't die but haven't grown much at all. How can I best amend the soil around them and fertilize and make them grow?
My mom has some old established burning bush in her yard in central PA zone 6b. It’s beautiful but obviously invasive as heck. Same with many of her neighbors. Should she bother removing it or is the cat already out of the bag so to speak?
Can you do more of an instructional video for some of your vegetables? I've been trying to grow more and more produce but always stress that I'm not doing something right. Currently have broccoli growing and it has gotten big and leafy. Not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for, how long it takes to form, etc. In zone 9 so not really stressed about frost/freeze.
Hi! My sunshine ligustrum in a pot has all dark leaves. It’s in full sun and just planted this spring from very small. Any thoughts on why?
Jim, I want to get a headstart on my plant shopping for next spring here in zone 6b PA. I want to order a Sunshine ligustrum and nandina both hardy to zone 6. Can I keep them watered in the garage with windows facing north until spring? My concern is that since these are (semi) evergreens do they require more sunlight? Please advise.
More potential fall garden internet misinformation for you if you are up to it. Can a semi-evergreen perennial die if it doesn't go to sleep an experiences a hard frost? Additionally, how do plants like Yarrow, Catmint and Verbena preform if they don't go to sleep in the winter?
The details: I was trying to look up what yarrow does in the winter (my yarrow, catmint, and verbena are all currently in bloom…), and most of what I found on the big garden websites (not .edu sites) is either that it will die to the ground after a frost, or cut it down to 2 inches to prevent the plant from dying from a hard freeze. I figured letting them do what they want is best but these authors seem to claim that some perennials can die if you didn't trim them back before a hard freeze. My mentioned plants are all in bloom despite being below freezing 22 of the last 30 days here in central Oklahoma Zone 7a. 12 of those days were consecutive with a good amount in the mid 20's (I have only used plant-tone back in the spring so I'm not pushing them, soil temp is still in the upper 40's). Interesting to watch! Anyone else have this going on?
I’ve planted bulbs in containers and my question is… can l leave the bulbs in the containers all year long? Do I have to dig them up after the foliage dies back or can I just leave them to grow again the following year? Thanks for all the great videos! Love this channel! 😎
So all butterfly bushes get cut right down. Didn’t that. (Live in Lower Mainland BC 🇨🇦)
Love that you reminded us that there are No Stupid questions ❤
How should I store for the winter a sweet potato vine tuber that I pulled out of my containers? Or should I have left it in the container? I'm in Oklahoma zone 7b/7a
Can I send you some pics of my Camellia tree for some advice on her?
