What’s the biggest mistake that beginner gardeners make? In our opinion it’s trying to do too much in the beginning. Although social media and YouTube can provide a plethora of great information, it can also set unrealistic expectations that are difficult to meet. Don’t try to duplicate what someone else is doing. You do you!

Join us as we discuss some recent thoughts we had regarding the discovery that Liver King was on steroids. We’ll consider the parallels that this has to the gardening and homesteading community, and hopefully provide some helpful tips for starting small and winning the small battles. We’ll also give a tour of our raised bed garden where we have lots of delicious groceries growing.

  1. I have been successful in getting rid of fire ants using GRITS! Just sprinkle the dry uncooked grits generously over the bed, and you can still eat all those good groceries in that bed.

  2. And you're blessed to be able to do what you do monetarily. There is no way I could accomplish such a large garden because it's just me. I grow for extended family what I can and they know it's for me first. God bless and keep teaching.

  3. Just because Liver King is a fraudster doesn’t make an ancestral (Keto/Carnivore) diet as fake as he is.
I raise and eat fruit, berries, veg and chickens on my 1/4 acre lot. I started an ‘ancestral’ Keto diet and went from 280 to 195 lbs in about 8 months and have stayed there for over a year…at 66 years old.

  4. Travis – Advion. Best fire ant killer I have found. You can get it at Amazon. Seems to be a little pricey but not in the long run. I am in North Texas. Some years are worse than ever with them. Most hills take one application and they are gone in 24 hours.

I had one bill I had to apply it twice. I hit that thing with the mower. Ride’em cowboy went through my mind when I hit it.

Also, I like that you tell what you do wrong or won’t do again. That helps me not to duplicate the major mistakes.

Thanks for the fertilizer video! Perfect.

    Love ya channel.

  5. Gardening has helped me see failure differently. It’s a process but Im learning failure is a challenge. Instead of feeling too disappointed, I try again, in a new way. Next spring I’ll be growing chayote once again. I’ve been unsuccessful with it so far.

  6. Anybody with half an eye in their head could see that guy is on roids. My son was an excellent athlete both in high school and College. he worked out with a garage of weight-lifting equipment but never used steroids so I know what steroids can do plus affect health as a negative outcome. It's not about my son but rather about the negative effects of that person advertising a false narrative!

  7. i appreciate your honesty. me i do what i can money is the biggest problem because i just cannot pay $300 to $500 for just one bed frame. But I feel the newest ways I've seen to make do will help this year. cardboard box beds looks to be my best hope. that and pvc pipe frames to lay netting over to foil the flocks of mourning doves, crows, and lord knows what other birds are hanging out on all the power and phone and cable lines just waiting to ring the dinner bell. stupid birds.

  8. I can grow regular radish all day, but don’t even have turd’s luck growing watermelon radish. Do you do anything different with them than you do regular ones?

  9. We just had Giant Red Mustard stalks celery style. So good and not nearly as tough as celery! Win!

  10. I know this is off video. But can you give a few seed companies I can order seeds by the pound and not packs. I've watched your channel for a long time now and remember you talking about some of these companies but don't remember the names. If you could I thank you. Just a couple would do.

  11. Travis, this is slightly off topic. I'm curious if you've thought about a tomato growing contest for this year and the varieties you plan to go with. It's time to order seed!

  12. I agree with you 100% and being realistic. The problem I see is that common sense is no longer common. Keep up the great videos!

  13. All your comments are right on. Been growing veg for more than 50 years and I know bogus content online when I see it. Yours is not. Subscribed.

  14. I live in South Texas we have fire ants everywhere the only thing that I have seen that will really push them back and get them out of there is orange orange juice orange peels throw all that on top of them and they will flee like bugs love you channel
