After a severe root pruning mid summer, my Ficus microcarpa has grown well and needs pruning once again. I’m also working on correcting the surface roots.

Yesssss! 🪴
whooops
Dreads?! ✌️
Great job Nigel! It’s plain to see you know what you’re doing! 😂🤣🐦💙
👍
The thick roots getting sorted is impressive, they worked out really well. I like the style of the tree and the direction where the canopy is headed. Looking forward to future developments.
You call this Microcarpa
But so is Golden gate and so is Tiger Bark
Are Golden Gate and Tiger Bark subspecies? Like all thumbs are fingers, but not all fingers are thumbs?
7:15 for the future ❤
I was OK until you cut that root. Think the roots were fine as they were.
You pull an errant root and it takes the drainage screen with it. Just one more reason why securing the screens to the bottom is a good idea.
Taking a moment to enjoy the vast plains taken by your ficus makes me really enjoy the differences between all the styles of so many artists. A piece here and there absorbed into my head paints quite a grand picture. The future on that tree is likely to include a massive fused base like a melted candle.
I have to say. Nigel I dont always agree with your methods or dessitions but I always admire you and love how you talk to us even though we are not in the room with you. Never stop being the awsome goofball you are!
That tree sure got one up on you Eh!😄 It taught you a lesson… Plain and simple…😂😉😉 Great video Nigel!
Definitely a great pruning by the Master of Bonsai: Dr. Nigel Saunders. Excellent video.
9:25 I LOVE when the trimmers are close to the mic. Its such a satisfying sound… Once this tree is finished you should get little avatar figures and make scaffolding and such and make it a full Home Tree penjing! It could either look really cool, or really tacky, but worth a thought at least!
Nigel where did you get your basic bonsai cutting tools, i was looking on amazon but some of them look pretty bad quality ( uneven cutting edges ect ) do you have any recommendations for affordable options like side cutters ect?
Looking great nigel 👌
👍👌
This ficus is not exactly plain either. Maybe plain-er ? 🙂 Great work! Really looking forward to seeing how the tree will look like 5 years or more into the future.
Interesting work on this ficus. Do you think that it might be worth considering removing every other root on the front in order to develop larger ones. Might get you the buttress look that is so common in ficus. Opinion?
Beautiful!
Looks more like benjamina. I have tons of ficus microcarpas, and they all have either oval or circular thick, leathery leaves.
Have one benjamina right now, the one I made for my little brother. Looks just like that.
