John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ shares how he has been composting WRONG even though he was successful at turning his food scraps, yard waste, and browns compost he uses in his garden.
In this episode, you will get an update on John’s 4 Jora JK400 compost tumblers and learn how they have all rusted out with time probably due to John’s inability of composting perfectly. You will learn where his composters are rusting and why he believes they are rusting.
You will see how John can make compost successfully in his Joraform JK400 tumbling composters but also is having them rust on him probably because he is not composting correctly, and has a compost that is too wet that does not contain enough carbon (browns) such as cardboard shreds, or compressed sawdust pellets.
You will see the incidences of rust on each of John’s 4 Jora JK400 composters. This can also occur to other Jora Composters such as the JK270 or Jk125 as they are made out of the same materials.
You will see the pile of rusted panels that John has replaced over the years he has owned the Jora composters. You will also learn if rust is covered by Joraform under the 2-year warranty, and why Jora believes the composters rust on people who use them.
Finally, you will learn about the only composter that John recommends at this time that is still standing and has not rusted out on him after 10 years of dependable service.

Thanks, very important info here. Blessings
I do everything wrong too.
Need stainless steel at least, maybe aluminum….i dont think wood would last, maybe pressure treated.
To me it's clear that they used the wrong/cheap type of metal to make these bins.
This hurts. I bought one in October based on your past recommendations. It arrived heavily damaged, and now I have rust to worry about 🙁
The only 2 ways to prevent the rust issues are….
The metal must be …
Grade 316 stainless steel,
costing almost 3x for materials or …..
Plastic composting design…
Micro plastics will leach inevitably over time and it will fail.
The stainless steel option is by far superior providing its made from Grade 316, which is exactly what is used for Marine applications! ✔️
What I've found interesting is that organic vegetable garden you tube channels don't tell you exactly how many bags of each product to use in a raised bed only percentages.
I've heard so many times people not getting results. Because of soil.
Peet moss
Raised bed mix
Compost
Topsoil
I've watched the videos, now I hope to get it right for this up coming spring.
I have rust on my lifetime hinges/brackets too
It's not the compost. It's the crap materials they are using. All you need is a few wooden pallets to make a pile big enough to get hot.
Blessings, truth wins 💓🙏
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Sir I’ve been following you for 10+ years
Still love my jora… but… it is rusted .. for sure
Moisture raising up in the bins hence rust 😊
Thanks for putting out this video!! I was looking to buy a composter for friends and family this Christmas but I know they won't be perfect composters and was debating on what to get other than the Jora as others have shown rust. I'll get the lifetime you recommend!!
Back in the day – farmers "had a guy" who made things. Stuff doesn't last anymore. We all need "a guy" again!
thanks john!
If you're spending money on a composer you're just a plain fucking idiot
I bought a JK270 back in 2014 when they were $389… started falling apart after the first Northern winter here in zone 4. Now I just plop leaves and food scraps in old plastic laundry tubs or 5 gallon buckets. Easier to move around, open to bugs (vermiculture), and basically free.
Man one could just make it from heavy heavy duty recycled plastic, tons of that laying all over..
We would use the plastic format for bash plates on 4 wheelers instead of aluminium and it sure held up
Plastic seals better. As you can be super calculated on fit and finish
How does the rust effect the compost?
I bought the 2 barrel plastic tumbler from Costco 2 summers ago. The latch mechanism is metal and rusted out. I may return it as Costco doesn't have a limit on their return policy
Probably the simplest fix is to make it out of aluminum or possibly stainless steel..
If you have the space just pick up 4 free pallets from your local hardware store and make bays. In a very, very small space I make 2 full pallet bays of compost a year, enough for all my beds.
These spinning things are a gimmick. Check out Charles Dowdings videos on composting – very useful videos. Don't waste your time with the spinners.
Just use stainless. You'll have it forever.
I call Bullsh!t on Jora.
THEY SHOULD KNOW that the process of making a good hot compost pile INCLUDES MOISTURE. That means adding water from time to time when rotating the bin.
FYI: My father bought the original Composttumbler (now made and sold by Mantis), back in the mid-80's. That tumbler is still in our back yard today. We used the hose to moisten the contents… and it's NOT rusty. The metal is still good.
I did replace the threaded rods (which did get rusty) and the plastic end-caps (which cracked after 3 decades in direct sunlight).
I recommend you check out the Mantis web site for more info on the various sizes and options.
I'm curious why you don't recommend the Composttumbler.
Thank You for your Honesty.
