With an olive branch, @metallica is showing they are ready to not just embrace – but help lead the next iteration of the digital music landscape. A huge day indeed. I hope this is a bell weather for all of us. Perhaps they heard you @MrBeast ?!

Holy shit. I get it now. The new album is titled 72 seasons. 72 seasons works out to 18 years. The digital age of media has finally matured enough and this is them embracing it.
Happy Birthday!
39?48…god I'm older than the dirt I sleep in.
Happy birthday michael!! Interesting outro BTW 😂
If they keep it up, I go back to the record shop and buy it after I get a "taste"
Smart move for the whole industry
THIS is the way!
Hopefully I don’t sound like an apologist for the band, but here it goes. As much as Metallica has that stigma attached to them because of Napster (prolly deserved), I believe they have been super customer friendly since then, especially when dealing with YT. I’m fact, they have personally asked their own legal department to back down from copyright strikes years ago, so they might be one of the few of those giant legendary bands that actually doesn’t get mad over people watching and sharing their stuff on YT.
Mr. Michael, gigantic, happy birthday to you wholeheartedly. Thank you for everything that you do. You mean a lot to many people and your hard work is noticed! Thank you for giving us a piece of you and All of us a place to come together. Have a great birthday and day! We appreciate you!!
Happy Birthday Mike.
Your best video to date!
Metallica had/have NO issue with Napster or the internet in principle. Lars said when this whole thing was going on, if Napster had approached Metallica about putting their music on Napster, everything could have been avoided.
Happy birthday
Sounds like they need the publicity.
Dude Happy Birthday!!!
Whether you believe it or not, it was never about their music being stolen or listened to for free, it was about the artist wanting control over their art.
Janie Hendrix needs to take the hint.
Great book! The resistance is real! Keep up the great content.

Radio in the USA doesn’t pay any royalties to the artist because they got a deal saying that in exchange for promoting the music it should be free for them. In fact before the digital era the artist will pay the radio to play their music. The benefit for the artist they would get promoted and people would buy their albums. But now like Michael said there isn’t anything physical to buy. Most people get a subscription for a streaming service and listen to all the music they want. Spotify pays $0.0007 per stream so make the math how much the artist gets. The emerging artist until it makes it needs some kind of remuneration to survive.
Happy birthday 🎉!!
Given how hard it is to make fractions of a cent selling your music, it probably is going to take a sea change amongst music consumers for bands to be able to make a living off of their music and not their merch.
Lars actually talked about this during lockdown, I think on a live stream. I wish I could remember where I saw it so I could link to it but he basically said they decided to let their music be shared with little or no restrictions.
I was a huge Metallica fan in the 80’s/ early 90’s, but stopped paying attention to them after that. I probably would not have even heard the new track were it not have seen it on the YouTubers I follow. And it rocks!!
Absolutely, man. When I uploaded and read the words, "Checks complete, No issues found" I was in complete shock. lol
I just don’t get why I can’t find floor tickets less than $3G. Why are concerts so expensive?
Michael PLEASE you have to react to this video

It’s an acoustic/classic cover of Metallica that, in my opinion, is legendary
It currently sits at 17million views
Metallica doesn't belong to a major label. They are basically independent now under their own label.
You're two days older than me and yet you have so much wisdom. Awesome content as always!
Kudos to Metallica. That’s really cool.
Metallica was correct in the beginning. Just think, the music business has been non existent since the digital age. It was great for old bands catalogs. Metallica realizes this now. At least they have a catalog of old albums that people will still buy. By keeping their name out there, it gets young kids exposed to their old stuff. And that is new stuff to kids who weren't even born back then. But what about new artists today who don't have a back catalog. It's new bands that are suffering in this new digital age. And that sucks.
A while back, I noticed an old long-haired homeless looking guy sitting behind home plate at Yankee Stadium. He completely stood out. I watch every single Yankee game. I started to notice him at almost every single game. Those seats cost $$$. So, out of curiosity, I did some digging to try and figure out who this guy was. As it turns out, he's the manager of METALLICA. So it's quite possible that if it was not a member of the band it could have been an old dude who gave the OK.
Happy belated birthday Michael! Great book by the way (Pressman).
Happy Birthday man. Thanks for the content
The irony 😂
The song is not that good y’all. Reload maybe
