Art is Liberal? No…
Liberalism Killed Art.

Today we look at the history of art in the West, how Liberal ideology waged war against art, and the fallout now plaguing our civilization.

  1. Great video, you definitely help make up for a great lack of silence towards the destruction of art within conservatism.

You're wise and a good steward of God.

With that said, I would say another aspect of art you seemed to allude to and is that it is a means of communication.

Art is an unconventional language, a way of communicating something through means beyond you're every day conversation, things that can't be conveyed through basic language.

It is meant to communicate an idea or concept from one person to another, display an objective and true reality or story (e.g. the Word of God).

What modernism was was a breakdown of art into abstract forms, up to the individual for interpretation and impossible for any two people to get the same meaning from outside of just random chance.

Art no longer conveyed ideas, concepts, stories, lessons, histories, etc. from one person to another but instead became a means for one to interpret their own individual realities from "art".

A defiance of objective truth, a rejection of God, and an upholding of self worship and idolatry.

Edit: you got to all of this, fantastic video.

Edit 2: If you want a good example of how tribalism and paganism corrupted the art of architecture, Art Deco and Mayan Revivalism is a great example (and one of the first widely accepted forms of modernism). It drew significantly from Aztec and Mayan culture and combined them with abstract geometric forms.

  2. "Art is the glorification of that which an artist values." 3:15. Then no wonder liberals make art that in THEIR subjective opinions is beautiful, but in reality is objectively ugly. They reject the living God and don't seek to glorify and worship Him, but instead seek to glorify and worship themselves. That sin is as old as time itself. It should come as no surprise that the Creator and sustainer of all human life, who reveals THE truth to us (not my truth, or yours, but THE truth) through a myriad of ways, has not only an objective standard of truth, but one of beauty as well. Well said James. Incredible video.

  3. Great video JAWS! While I prefer the aesthetics of most liberal art, excluding the lewd materiel of course, over more conservative art I agree that we need to restore objective beauty, purpose, and glorification of God in art.

  4. Awesome video. I haven't heard many people talk about how real art disappeared.

  5. Photography, not liberalism killed art. It's not a coincidence that quality of visual arts began to decline in the mid-late 19th century when the camera became widespread. Resentful artists who got outcompeted by new mediums went the deconstructive path because they could no longer make a living in realistic work.

  6. Wow that was informative, inspiring, and entertaining!

However I find it ironic that at the end you montage beautiful art with degenerate, modern music.

  7. Speaking as a working artist and a college art instructor, I think this video is something every art student should watch. It’s worth more than any art history education they will get in the modern art school. When I was in school, students have to label their so called artwork so the janitors don’t take them as garbage and throw them out. However, realism or representational art (which was simply called “art” in the past) is currently on the rise. My mentor told me nobody was doing anything remotely traditional in the 70s when he was in school, and he was told by his professor that painting is dead. There have now been a modern renaissance in the art world and good representational art is becoming increasingly more popular. A lot of artists choose to get traditional training in ateliers instead of creating garbage in art schools. In short, the future is hopeful!

  8. Hey James, amazing video. I appreciate you reminding us that the seemingly sudden madness that has overtaken our culture has a source.

Just a question, about 30:40. You brought up the Austrian painter and those people who fled Europe. Are you making the worst possible implication as it sounds like you are? I’m not asking in a spirit of condemnation, just in a spirit of trying to understand what you’re getting across

  9. FEATURE LENGTH JAW VIDEO ESSAY LFG!!!
I once had a class that included studying art's evolution over the 20th century, and it was very eye opening. All of the downward steps that Art took into the demonic state in which it now rests were underpinned by godless, subversive, very often subtly satanic ideologies. Art says a very great deal about the culture that creates it.
This is a very important video!

  10. Poetry has also practically died in the modern era. In college I had 2 main options to choose from for a writing assignment:
    A. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by Wordsworth ( Beautiful poem with splendid imagery )
    Or
    B. A Poem to the White man who asked me how I as a successful woman of color could believe in white privilege

I am not joking, the title for the feminist angry rant masquerading as poetry was that long. Although I can't remember the author or the exact title of the travesty, that is the gist of it. Modern writers are encouraged and taught to capture ugliness and depravity instead of the good, true, and beautiful.

  11. Watching a JAWS video with a hot chocolate rn. I am simply the coziest man to currently exist.

  12. Great video! Audio came out pretty quiet compared to other videos again… not sure if it's my speakers somehow, or what, but I had to crank up the volume from the last video in my playlist to this one. Unless I turn it back down, the next one will probably be blasting. Not sure why that could be, but I hope you figure it out. More people need to hear what you have to say!
    God bless!

  13. That last sentence and the montage was so freaking hype.

You have a way with inspiring.

Same feeling as when the beacon of Minas Tirith was lit.

Really you’re videos just put into words what I’ve always known intuitively. They’re like fog clearing and vision being restored.

  14. You claim that the godlessness of art causes culture to become lost. "a culture and society that has no idea where it is, where it came from, or how to get anywhere besides where it is now" that without clear definitions, and without honoring God, art as we know it lacks origin. We will not know where we came from and thus not be able to effectively move into the future. If we are supposed to stay the same and value the natural order through imposed tradition – how can we move forward? You say we must value conservatism in art, that is stagnancy. If art reflects life, in a society that is progressing would art not represent that as well? Is the critique of art not the acknowledgment of its history?

There is another concept that I would like to introduce to you. It's called taste. Art is subjective, some people prefer certain styles of art whereas other don't. Just because you look at a piece of art and see garbage does not mean that is the truth. You simply represent your own perspective, your own personal taste.

You claim that the liberal agenda is controlling art, controlling art by not clearly defining what art is, or rather what art should be (you argue for godly art). If art is only used to honor God through traditional means, is that not limiting art? You claim freedom of artistic expression ultimately subtracts from its meaning. Yet you are the one who is advocating for restrictions. Classical art forms and especially religious art forms are by no means a dying breed but merely supplemented with modern art techniques.

If anyone wants to glorify God through their art, if anyone wants to return to classic art styles, they are free to do so. There are communities that still find value in those things, you are clear proof of this. However, your own preference for these artistic traditions does not warrant the erasure of modern art.

It is so interesting how you use liberal ideology to promote your conservatism. You lament the industrialization of America, and you warn against the tyranny of an oppressive government. Yet your solution is the regulation of acceptable forms of art? That is just an illogical conclusion to come to. You are correct that art is often controlled to influence people, however, you neglected to mention how the church has controlled art for centuries. Religious depictions were not always the natural inclination of artists, but rather their only option in many cases.

Modern art refuses to put restrictions upon art. To argue against modern art is to argue for control, to argue against freedom.

  15. You think God so vain that God would require every piece of art to praise God's name. Did God not create your mind? Did God not give you the ability to create art? To use your God-given gifts is to honor God. To limit art despite the range God has provided is to limit God. Can I not honor God with every breath I take? Or is that too insignificant? Who are you to decide what God thinks is significant or not? I could honor God through an abstract grayscale still life of a banana. God is present even when God's name is not overtly used, do not try and limit limitless divine power.

  16. The exhibit on decadent art was put on by the Nazis and every point made in this video was made by the Nazis to attack and destroy the art and, oh yes, the (often Jewish) artists. You note that these "decadent" artists came to America in the 30s and 40s as if it was an "invasion" rather than an escape from persecution and death at the hands of those who would wholly agree with this video.
