The technology of preparation of ornamental material is simple, but requires accuracy and certain skills. The basic principles of making crafts:

Cuts can be made from trunks and branches of any diameter. Plates of the required thickness are cut out. Knots are not a rejection factor: they give uniqueness to the drawing.
The cutting is performed in the transverse direction. To obtain a large number of cuts, a circular saw or a grinder is used. Simple crafts can be done with a hacksaw.
The surface of the saw is cleaned of sawdust and sanded. The bark can be removed or left in its place, depending on the type of craft.
You can show the texture with special impregnations that penetrate deep into the material. Different compositions are used: transparent, which do not change the natural shade and make it clearer, or tinting (for example, stain).
Rot may appear on the wood, so the workpieces are covered with protective agents that form a strong film or a solid layer on the surface of the saw. Varnishing is most often used.
The parts are connected using joiner’s glue, superglue, epoxy resin and other compounds.
For crafts, you can use wood of different breeds, differing in texture and color. Spruce, pine, fir, ash, birch, oak saws are more popular. The lines on the cuttings of fruit trees (cherry, pear, walnut) are very beautiful.
Important! Only well-dried wood should be used in the work. Parts from fresh trunks deform as they dry. During the preparation of raw materials, cracks may appear unnoticeable from the outside. They must be filled with a special composition (resin) and sanded after drying.

Simple crafts
It is possible to make very simple crafts from the cuts, which are available for young children. They are created for kindergarten or school, for cottages or apartment interior decoration, as souvenirs.
