Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellón, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity.

If you enjoy the videos we make and are looking for a way to say a quick thanks for the work that goes into making them, here is a way for you to make a one-off donation 🥰:

  1. Have you thought about hanging 2 layers of curtains with an air gap in between to stop the draft? It depends on your set up, but that can often be an easy first step to reduce a breeze and provide some insulation.

  2. Hi Harriet, to solve the problem from working on the floor, you could make you two saw horses and use a piece of wood to make you a portable work bench. So you not need to work on you knees.
There are tons of free plans in the internet to make your selves such kind of helpers.

  3. Bravo!!!! Great shelves! So thoughtful to make Mauro more comfortable and good on you and you can do spirit!❤️

  5. It is nice to see you make nice things if the palletwood. Very inspiring!!! I'm gonna find me some pallets 🤗..

  6. The shelving is looking really good especially when sanded up. Using the flap disk was much better than trying to do it by hand and yes you'll need to replace it.

    Keep up the progress.

  7. What a lovely couple you are! ❤❤❤❤❤ love your dog, she looks such a character! Can you share a bit about her history etc? Look forward to seeing shelves up to!

  8. If you can get mylar sheets (aka disposable emergency blankets) and hang them above the doorways or even against the wall that would help with heating. It does also trap in moisture so use with caution, I wouldn't use it in a bathroom or kitchen but it might work in an office. They are fairly cheap and even though they are ugly you can just hang a blanket or curtain on top of it so you don't see it.

  9. I don't know if you've answered this before but in case you haven't, do you guys believe in homeopathy and do you have any intentions of growing medicinal plants for yourselves? Loved the video as always, can't wait to see how you build the sliding door and what material you choose for the curtains in the office! <3

  10. Hi. For information on pallets and chemical search Dainer Made "methyl bromide". Methyl bromide is banned in the EU. Any dangerous chemicals would only probably be used for foreign pallets coming in from India/Asia and they would be hardwood (darker brown).
To warm the house on cold days try searching YT for "solar furnace". That would give you free heat from the sun.

  12. I have noticed how people do what you are talking about, I think they are called Engle Nick's,. A small dedicated area for warmth of course it must be vented, . I myself on rarer cold Winters in Los Angeles I have put rug like materials behind my bed Head board.

  13. i live in the same general region as you guys and i love hearing your interpretations of the seasons and weather.

  14. Always an interesting video! The shelves for the office space are an amazing transformation❗👌I took your tip on the wine vinegar adding to gravy💗Your gardening & hard work are an inspiration💚

  15. After all the work you do I highly recommend making yourself a work bench that will last a lifetime. It's more convenient and SAFE. love your videos 😁

  16. ahh yeah, those projects you think only take a day… we've got a bunch of these day projects. Unfinished, months later. Good to see we're not the only ones that struggle with that! And at least you got some cooking wine out of that bucket! Oh and also, careful with the gas heaters. They produce an enormous amount of humidity and should only be used in well-ventilated spaces. We realised that after spending money on one that it's actually not ideal for our already humid place…

  17. If you boil some white onion skins they make a brown dye for staining your wooden shelves. Your local restaurant or take-away should have plenty. The more you reduce the liquid the darker the stain becomes.

  18. Hi guys , I have a question about your water storage.you have mentioned that it is mosquitos free because of your water plants. I have been looking for some but still not sure what to get and where, we are getting eaten for most of the year😭here in Catalunya . Thank you Sari.

  19. So satisfying seeing pieces of rough pallet wood taking shape, that must have taken hours of effort condensed into a short piece of video. Well done, keeps you warm too.
Hopefully your material has arrived for the curtains, I'm a firm believer in curtains having found how warm a simple tent can be. I've used blankets, bedspreads etc to double up as curtains when necessary.
