East Bay homeowner watches Hayward Fault split his yard
Over the past several decades, science editor Brian Hackney monitored the Hayward Fault slip as it splits apart Phil and Darlene’s property, sending part of it toward Alaska. (11-27-22)
I did my own Seismic Retrofit in 1989 and 1990 because of the Hayward fault. I was on the Bay Bridge Oct. 17, 1989 when it broke, and studied the Hayward fault after that In 1989, geologists gave us the probability that the Hayward Fault would have a major rupture within 30 years. But here we are, 33 years later. It hasn't failed yet. But the probability is still there. This was one of many reasons to move from Oakland, though (It was mostly the violence and my belief that Oakland can't save itself)
Great video. I lived in the Bay Area 2/3's of my life and I never thought about anyone actually living right on a fault. I worried about driving under an overpass or on top of a bridge during an earthquake or maybe living in San Francisco like in the Marina. When I was a kid we had to wait for tsunami and at school we were told if the police knocked on the door, we were to bolt out the back and run for the hills. Now I live in Sacramento and I hope when the next big earthquake hits I don't get too rattled up here. Time will tell. I hope the nice couple in the video never experience a big one right under them.
Every land around the Pacific Ring Of Fire. They are triggered by underwater Volcanoes that coming from the deep underwater Volcanoes Earthquake's. The pressure under the ocean creates a fault lines and released it's heat pressure under the ground sometimes heat & Cold pressure meet it's went sonic boom under the ground & creates a new fault lines. Natives knows what's coming because it's happened long time ago in ancient past when seasons changed.Thats when the Sun has gone out and completely darkness. Not solar eclipse but I refuse to believe that this is the 3rd destruction's of our planet. There's always Hope and we're keep moving forward. If the Earth has come to it's final end of it's road.Thats doesn't mean it's the End of Humanity..Gotta keep looking..

I think at this point in our evolutionary scale mankind would be better off if the whole West Coast went sliding into the ocean.
Bring on the big one!!!!!!
SF needs reconstruction.
Motorstorm Apocalypse!!!
That's the thing.. you can't prepare you can only move, if you are restless about it.
If it is in a flood zone, it might be worth it to put the house on stilts, or risers.
Well maybe it will split and take San Francisco with it into the ocean. Just hope it would spare the ballpark.
Completely expected from the corrupt failed Democrat controlled Charcoal State of California

What a great segment. Hope Phill is doing well.

Looking good Phil

Have fun eventually getting destroyed
Great Video!
I love that they are okay
I like his attitude. So be it. We need more of this and less fear-mongering.
this generation of Americans needs to be cherished now
I love old ppl
I bet not everyone has earthquake insurance. Little movement on the foundation can be costly. It won't buff out.

I wish they had shown more of the fence/wall cracking/moving over the years.
It breaks my heart to see Phil in a wheelchair. I fear he will be there the rest of his life.
I love that these segments exist.
Great update on the Hayward Fault creep.
