Flooding and pooling of water in the yard and water in the basement is why we put in a french drain. The supplies can be found at big box stores and Amazon:

We used the duraweave geotextile fabric nearer the house which is not water permiable. This water was directed toward the french drain. The french drain – a trench dug 12 inches to 24 inches deep – had a layer of river rock in the bottom with white drain pipe on top of that. With holes facing toward the bottom, the water is allowed to accumulate in the french drain and then flow up into the pipe as the water rises.
The pipe is covered in river rock which does not compact because it it round. Therefore, the voids between the rocks is a way for water to flow through them and into the drainage pipe.
