Ashley is an agronomist who has had a passion for plants since she was a small child. In the long summers as a child, she would garden alongside her grandmother and it was then that she realized her love for greenery. With years of great studying, Ashley had begun her post-secondary education at the University of Saskatchewan.
At first, her second love, animals, was the career path she chose but while doing her undergrad she realized that her education would take her elsewhere. And with that, four years later she graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in science and a major in Soil Science.
Some of Ashley’s interests are YouTube, in which she posts informative videos about plants and gardening. The focus of Ashley’s YouTube channel is to bring science to gardening in a way that is informative but also helpful to others learning to garden. She also talks about the importance of having your own garden and the joys of gardening indoors. Ashley continues to study plants in her free time and hopes to expand her YouTube channel as well as her reach to up and coming gardeners.

If you want to grab the heater! https://geni.us/XphA
My friend taught me a big plastic barrel filled with green grass clippings heats up wonderful and helps as a great heat sink, which helps up here in the Yukon
Hi I'm in Calgary, do you have direct sun during the day in the winter? I ask because I have a north backing patio but I don't get direct sun in winter because of my building. We do get chinooks but I'm trying to figure out if I can get away without using a heater. Also how much is you electric bill when you use it consistently during a cold snap?
Well done and so helpful.Thx👍🏼
You have a video on everything I look for on gardening 😂
Didn't see a link for the heater.
I live in london, Ontario . I believe we are zone 6B. I have some moringa plants in a planter and almost 7ft tall . I don’t want to bring them inside the house. Considering to put them inside garage. Any suggestions for keeping it warm in winter?
Thanks
How can i know what zone am I?! Im in Winnipeg Manitoba.
I'm in Rocky Mountain House, AB also grow zone 3a. Turns out that we are also the hail capital of North America or the world, something like that. Gardening here is like a full contact sport. Last year the first week of Aug we had a hail storm that ruined my garden in about 20 min. I knew I needed a greenhouse. I bought a greenhouse from somewhere and it lasted I think 3 days?? So I bought Cattle panels. 80.00 a pop here in Rocky. And greenhouse plastic. And kiddie pools (I can't dig) and pallets. I watched your video with joy. I read that each protective layer you can put over your garden/greenhouse is another better grow zone. I am planning to add a small compost bin to my hoop house AND I'm going to add an air layer of plastic to really insulate. I was also thinking of adding a reflective insulation that you wrap around your hot water tank? I have so many pepper plants that I grew from seed this year that are actually fruiting!!!! I want to save them for next year but I don't have room in my house for everything. I also don't want to wait until Sep to get my fruits. My neighbour has cancer and I actually give her 90% of what I grow right now. All my carrots, tomatoes and potatoes, lettuces, chives, onions and I have given her some cannabis plants too. The White Widow with lots of amber helped her arthritis. I'm going to make the changes to the hoop houses in Oct. Wish me luck !!!
We’re you able to find a link for the heater or similar options? Maybe I’m just not seeing it. I’ve been using crockpot but I think I need a fan of some kind. Thanks
Hello. Where's the link to the heater?
Do you run the heater off of an extension cord? Like a heavy duty one.
Too much work for few plants.
What plants do you have inside the greenhouse? Did i see a marble pothos near the door? Do you put any of the indoor plantsin the greenhouse?
could you link the heater that you use please
In Saskatchewan, it is 37 below today January , wouldn't my garden freeze ?
That's great 👍 👌 ❤
How do you feel about the Magidome after using it for a while now?
I made a greenhouse at home and loved your tips – thanks! Problem I am having is that is gets crazy hot in the summer (would go past 45 degrees if door/windows shut). I am wondering – do you know of any good cooling solutions beyond just opening the windows/doors? Thanks!
Would you put compost heaps in your greenhouse? I’m thinking of building a greenhouse straight over a long series of 4ft cube compost bins I have and then using them as tables for spring starts etc. (I’m in zone 4) I work at home so I can monitor the heat. Thoughts?
I made really small greenhouse ..idk about a heater in mine was afraid of fire my frame is like 5 by 6 ft frame
Ashley, if you call those dogs puppies in Canada, then I would hate to see what a full grown dog looks like. Lol! 😆
I am indoor house planting in NYC, US. We’re seeing temperatures as low as 23F outside. Here’s the thing: apartment complex is so afraid of getting sued that they leave the heat on through the entire season! But that’s not the bad part.
I have Meyer lemon seedlings growing and (Quercus alba) white oak tree acorns germinating in the same indoor plant-tent facing Northeast-East; so sunrise is a big thing for my Meyers.
When I infrared-check the temperature, The area is usually cooler than the Meyer leaf. I have full spectrum grow lights, but the Meyers seem to be stretching to them, so I quarter turn them every week. When I set my humidifier to 60%, I only get maybe the high 40%. And when I finally get it to at least the high 50%, the temp is around 85F and the clear plastic is sweating everywhere! The overall temperature (leaf & ambiance) can fluctuate between low 70F to mid 80F.
Any suggestions? Please help?
Hi Ashley. Are you able to do a video showing how you wrapped and braced your greenhouse. I’m interested in buying this style so I can use it as a gazebo with netting in the summer and as a greenhouse in the spring and fall
good video, I'm at 4200 ft zone 3 in central Oregon USA. I have a new-to-me greenhouse, about to start my 2nd growing summer. Same problems, must heat at night and cool during the day.
Bees wax hydrologic cylinder vent door for roof would be a good idea no power needed
love you love your channel, its really funny to throw back to these older videos as i get my garden in grear for the upcoming season, you've really grown out of this more, umm…patronizing(..?..) vocal delivery that i'd forgot all about. Cant wait to see what yall got working for this year
I just discovered your channel and have been absolutely bingeing your videos! Love your puppy cameos as well 🙂
I have too much humidity and I get mold
“I’m Ashley and I’m a soul scientist” lol gets me every time
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. You are a good human ❤️
Thank you for the tips! This is amazing!!!
Sheesh….she talks so dang fast
Puppies as a huge Pitbull runs up LOL yeah I don't think that's a puppy
Ive seen some greenhouses with air vents that are opened and closed with struts with bees wax in them. When its hot wax melt when cold it hardens and it seems to work at the right temperatures.
Hahahaha WTF the like button is hilarious and funny. I just liked ur video instantly 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Been binge watching since I found the thistle killing video… you’ve got a treasure trove of info! What is the heater you use in the greenhouse? It seems pretty hardy. Is it waterproof?
If you just need a little bit of extra heat (if the temps are down around 0° in the spring or fall) you can put a tealight or a small candle on top of a terracotta dish (or bricks work too) and cover with a terracotta pot (with a hole in the bottom!) and light it in the evening when temps drop. The candle will generate heat for a few hours, and that will warm not only the air, but the pot and whatever it's sitting on as well, which will then act as a storage heater once the candle is out.
Great info!
I'm also in Zone 3 and like you said; daytime heat was my struggle. (A full time job realy interferes with the fun stuff!)
The "Inkbird ITC Temperature Controller" was a game changer!
A ceramic "amphibian heat lamp" down low and a 12 volt, 4" computer fan up top to exhaust heat kept things manageable.
Easy to program for heat and cooling. Best 40 bucks I've spent!
Magidome!!!
Thank you for the information I'm setting up my greenhouse to grow vegetables though out the winter here in Oklahoma USA it's my first time any suggestions would be great trying to make sure my family has food
Thank you. I live in the cold north and have been looking for a greenhouse but have not wanted to ship something too heavy. This is perfect.
This is EXACTLY what I’m looking for.
slow the tempo
This is excellent. I’m in Montreal and hovering around the freezing point. This is great advice for growing vegetables
Have you considered a double wall of plastic film? I live in zone 5 and want to keep growing into winter if possible. I really don't know how much advantage a double wall helps.
