Today I put the finishing touches to the wildlife pond, which is half a whisky barrel sunk into some gravel in the ground. I added local slate stones for depth (these are marginal plants and can’t be too deep) plus an old debarked Elder branch to provide out for anything that falls in. I also planted a dwarf Darwins Barberry (Berberis darwinii) behind the pond, to provide evergreen cover for the creatures coming to drink.
