In this December allotment jobs tour we start in our home back garden and then move on to the allotment where we store the dahlias for winter. December allotment garden jobs are more about preparing for next year but we can sow and grow a few things over winter.

We aim to grow our own food all year round so it’s important to us to keep the allotment and home vegetable garden going all year. This helps us to beat the cost of living crisis as we buy less food from shops. We plan to grow more of our own food next year and help other to do so also as the cost of living is predicted to get even higher.

If you are new to allotment gardening or a vegetable gardening beginner then use December to plan for the year ahead and prepare for what you are going to sow and grow. December is a great time to start an allotment or vegetable garden.

  1. Do you have any tips on the globe artichokes?
I have a spot to plant mine but it’s quite open and windy x

  2. Thanks a very useful reminder I need to get my Dahlia tubers out. Had some fantastic single flowering varieties this year that I want to protect

  3. Today I put extra mulch (leaves) on all beds. I still have all kinds of kale, kohlrabi, carrots, boksoy to harvest. Some I will do next week because the week after it will really get cold.

  4. Thank you for the advice. Useful as always. Concentrating on prepping the beds for early spring planting. Lots of compost, worms from the wormery and straw bales time of year for me!
