Kirstie and Phil catch up with Katrina and Nick, who wanted a home on Jersey, and Helen and Rick, who were looking for a home in the Manchester suburbs of Hale and Altrincham.

Property professionals like Phil Spencer and Kirsty Allsopp know all the secrets of successful house-hunting: being clear about what you want, aiming high and, above all, being prepared to compromise.
Our experts work to a brief of must-have attributes: number of bedrooms, character property or new build, but the most important aspect is always… Location, Location, Location! From auction houses and estate agencies, to websites and word-of-mouth, they leave no stone unturned in their quest for the best. They then have the unpredictable task of showing the house-hunters around a shortlist of properties that appear to fit the bill. Will they have judged their tastes correctly? Do these people even know what they want?

  1. It's a big mistake to buy a house with a North-facing garden, especially a small one. The sun is lower in autumn, winter and early spring and they may never see the sun, there will never be sunshine in the rooms overlooking the garden, they'll miss the light and the warmth and pay more in utility bills. It might even affect their mood not to see the sunshine.

  2. My house faces north and the snow never melts. Driveway is ice. But you could play in the back yard because the snow melted there quickly.

  3. I make all the decision in my life. I purchased all of my houses…I could never put up with a silly undecidesive man let alone a weak husband. A woman must have Her own Money and never need a man to buy her anything! Can't stand all of these silly couples. Please bring on the strong financial secured Women!!!

  4. The “wow” factor…we all want it but in a first house you might not get it…unless you can compromise on smaller rooms etc…

  5. Really great couples and good for Nina pushing for the house she knew was right. Couples often have one who really struggles to make decisions and needs the other to be clear and more fearless.

  6. While watching old episodes like this one (2009) I can't help but think that these couples need to buy at that time, as house prices have done nothing but climb since then. Love the dynamic between Kirstie and Phil. Love this show.

  7. This was a great episode and included the pains involved in heftiest financial life decisions. Kirstie and Phil, as always guided their buyers to finesse their real decision list.👍🏻
