The co-founder of Airbnb has just announced his new Prefab Home company and is officially accepting orders. Joe Gebbia announced this week that his new company Samara will build net zero accessory dwelling units known as backyard. Samara will offer two prefab options: a studio at 430 square feet and a 1 bedroom at 550 square feet both of which come standard with solar panels. It’s been an exciting year in the prefab home industry as new companies enter to help meet the demand for small footprint prefab homes in North America. Watch and learn more about Samara, what they offer and how much they cost.

  1. I can't see where they're getting their pricing from. I just saw a four bedroom, 2,500 sf townhouse (albeit built 50+ years ago) sell for $400,000. It had been completely redone, interior was gorgeous.

I also, just today, saw a 960sf manufactured house, three bed, 1.75 bath, for $100,000. Don't know what the lot rent is, but even if it was $600, that's a lot of time to rent that you're not paying out in extra overhead.

Okay, combo washer/dryer. Used in RV and Marine applications, they aren't as good as two different units. They're smaller and I guess for just one person, they would probably be okay, if you were doing laundry every other or every third day, but I'd rather have two separate units, even if they're 'apartment sized.'

  2. I know, don’t kill the messenger. I’d like you to double back on any of the previous captioned offerings and do a deep dive into the ordering, shipping, and installation/ construction. Real world products with real world people. Costs , shipping and otherwise. Walkthroughs of completed projects, on site…not in a brochure or sales lot. Candidly, one of your better videos was the trailer you orchestrated for yourself on the wooded lot. Also, manufacturers that are California centric…are just that. Folks back east might like and buy other than traditional and or log cabins…. Pack up the camper and kick some bricks and chat up some real actual consumers ?

  3. And with a washer/dryer stack you have 2 functions happening at the same time.

  4. Great video…. Concerning washer/dryer combos— the technology is not there yet. The dryer takes too long to dry… way too long… we’re talking close to 2 hours(and more).

  5. Hi Kerry,
Hopefully I copied the link right at 40 minutes 32 seconds Randy thanks you. We all thank you for your up to date and informing channel. Take care.

  6. Efficiency. Combo washer/dryer units take forever to dry. Living in Korea that's pretty much all they have and a 15L LG washer/dryer unit will take at least an hour try dry a normal load and if you wash blankets at least 2.5 hours. They are terrible.

  7. I want a prefabricated home made from containers. Totally off grid. Composting toilets, water tanks, pumps, filters, solar, basement, house, garage, workshop and hobby room. 5-40' containers, for 70K! Total turn key!

  8. Hey, you got a hair cut (better yet, all of them). Looking good. These homes are nice, the prices seem high but seeing that they come with solar panels and others things to take into account. * in reference to why separate washer and dryers as opposed to combos; originally they were very small, and the heating element for the dryer was not strong enough. Hence, someone had to do more loads and dry each load a few times to get them properly dry. Also, if the combo dies you are down on both; separate units – if one dies, you are still able to wash or dry and you just fix or replace one. (Just my two cents). Great job – I always find your videos informative and enjoyable ! Keep up the great job!

  9. I find it hilarious how many people are focusing on the washer and dryer combo pros and cons! 😂 As if the whole video was about that…
I do think the price was shocking! That’s a lot of Airbnb rentals to pay off!

  10. Kerry the combo washer and dryer are not efficient, it takes a very long time to dry, and that spikes up the electricity bill quite significantly!

  11. Only californian's would pay that much $$ for a 1 bedroom. Interesting to see if they can take that level of delusion outside the state. Half that price would be more competitive, can't see them breaking into the mass market any time soon.

  12. PLEASE show us one with lower prices….like BOXABLE!! We are looking at your channel because we can’t afford a typical house price. These small houses should be cheaper…

  13. I don’t know WHY America has SEPARATE Washer & Dryer machines! I lived in Vietnam from 2015-2018 and the washer/dryer combo I used was from Japan! It dries as fast as the stand alone dryer (if NOT faster). I currently live in Texas and my American Standards Dryer is not as efficient as the Japanese washer/dryer combo. THE COMBO ALSO SAVES SPACE & CHEAPER & ECONOMICAL!! The excess of American living is their downfall

  14. Price is a killer ! 😢 … i can easily build one at less than $9k , but codes and permits are designed to inflate the price .

  15. Sorry. This time I’m not all that impressed, and the prices seem ridiculous! However, you did your usual good job.

  16. Hey look at this company out of Riviera Beach Florida called Katana House. Their homes are sustainable green homes. I don’t know if they are modular or prefab, but they kind of look like it on the outside. Their homes are hurricane proof. The designs of their homes are absolutely beautiful. I even love their model home that has a two car garage and they even have two-story models that can go up to five bedrooms. Can you do a video on that?
