A few months ago I renovated my kitchen garden raspberry patch but for the second year running the plants have failed to thrive. Upon hearing a friend had a problem with her out of control raspberry patch I thought I can help her and she can help me. All I needed to do was ask and yes she was delighted to share her plants. In return I also share my abundance – we both came away winners.

In todays video I show you my failing patch and my small, but thriving swale patch into which we plant the canes gathered from my friends place. Stay until the end to see how they are going 2 weeks on!

I’ve started a buymeacoffee page – it should be renamed buymeaplant page as I hope to use funds raised here to diversify my trees and shrubs in my food forest. If you’d like to support me – link is below!! Thank you!

  1. Ooooh NICE! More raspberries! This week I planted about twelve yellow ones ("Golden Amber" and "Golden Everest") and still have to plant some more (red and black ones ("Lubera Sanibelle", "Glen Coe" and "Black Moon") – all along the fence along the street, so people can snack on berries while walking by 😊
Yours look like they like that spot on the swale. And raspberries are so hardy. Sometimes one of mine decides to send up a runner right in the middle between my rows. Usually I just rip them out thinking, I have enough plants already. But then I just can't throw them in the compost and I HAVE to "save" them and ask friends and nighbors if they want some. But of course I can only give away plants that look alive and thriving! So I plant them in a pot first. And most make it. Even small ones with basically no root at all! They look really sad for a few days and then they get ready to take over the world! 😂
Interesting, that the ones in your renovated patch don't like it there – mine are in the wettest area of my garden in clay soil. And in winter after very rainy periods it is very wet there. Have not seen standing water on the surface though.

  2. Wonderful. I have just planted 11 yellow ones and moved 2 older red ones…looked sick for a few days but after a rain shower all have new leaves…cant wait for next season

  3. Oh I love bartering Linda 💕 Most of my best plants have been from swapping🙌🏼 The extra rain has been such a pain, we flooded here again last night. I’ve got no chance of doing much until we can redirect the water runoff. The new pump will help (going to get it this week),so THANK YOU so much for the coffees💕 We are ever so
thankful to you. I had thought to plant my berries in the wet patch, but won’t be doing that now. Might just drop some ag line in and see how that works🙄 Have a wonderful day xx Cathi xx 😘
