Come along with me to plant my winter vegetable garden. I’ll be transplanting my broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage starts. I’m well overdue getting these little seedlings into their permanent home. But it’s not too late in zone 9A on the Texas coast. Our mild winters are perfect for growing all kinds of good food in your backyard beds. If you are new to garden and you might be surprised at how much food you can pack into a small backyard space. I’ll give you a look around at what’s going on in my backyard as we head into the winter.

Thanks for posting, enjoy watching. Planting anything here, just below lake Erie, doesn't work this time of year.Glad some can, must be fun. My Kale has survived over winter but not much else. Keep the Faith my friend and look forward to the days of Adam/Eve once again.
Love this! I’ll be growing food all winter as well. Zone 8b/9a near Cleveland, TX. I’m experimenting with growing 12 months in a row 🤞
So far I have cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, mustard, kale, spinach, onions, collards, fennel, peas, radish, turnips, beets and Swiss chard in the ground. I still have carrots and lettuces to plant. Woohoo! 🙌🎉
2:20 I sa the Phoebe photo bomb walking behind you😁
Hello from 🇬🇧, I put wood ash in the hole before planting my cauliflowers or broccolis, to prevent club root . Onions like growing with cabbages , great companions . How are you ? Are you coping ? Take care.
You & Phoebe are my new favorite YouTubers. I'm in Beaumont, I'm learning so much from you.
great your off and running sir.i do wish i could grow year round. nice try but i dont think she listens very well to your wishes lol.
I figured out a cure for Texas nutsedge Full strength RoundUp poison ivy/shrub concoction; with a paint brush dap the sedge base where the leaves start. 2 weeks later and no nutsedge. This works on morning glory too but you'll have to nick the stem so the evil-evil chemicals can do their thing. 😃
I tried planting my fall brassicas under netting this year thinking to foil the cabbage butterfly larvae. Then I planted some backup plants out in the open. To my surprise, the un-netted plants are thriving despite some holes while the netted ones were attacked by aphids and are stunted because the aphids went for the tenderest center leaves. I guess the netting lets aphids through but not lady bugs! Live and learn.
Yes, I agree you can definitely grow quite a bit in a small space. Just needs a little planning. I had most of my garden, and tropical fruit trees all taken down with the last hurricane. Got my raise beds back up and running replanted now we have a tropical storm coming. This year might be a wash. Even my muscadine grapes Of about 15 years were gone.
Hi, I find if you grow cabbage etc it best put it in deep and they like firm soil.
Looks great. I got my brocollii in a week ago, but am having no luck with my cauliflower seedlings… almost no germination and very weak seedlings
Looking forward to seeing your winter garden progress. I'm in zone 8b in Texas hoping to have some success with my winter garden. It will be cool to grow along with you this time around. 😁
I am in Georgetown SC zone 8B started our winter garden about two weeks ago. I tell people to put food in the grown with all the shortages going on. Great video
I'm in Zone 8a Arkansas growing carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and beets with encouraging growth. Happy gardening all. It's good to have your content to view. I'm learned a lot from your channel.
PHEOBE! Hi girl!
cough oh hai Scott. Glad to see you planting. My peppers are still going strong in the SC low country. My okra is blooming again (lol). I started peppermint and spearmint to hopefully be able to split in the spring. Rumor has it that cats don't like 'em.
Blessings to you, sir. So thankful I found you and subscribed.
Love your vids, due to the economy I started with a small garden on the side of the house. I have more than quadrupled it covering most of the sunlit areas that get sun of some kind year round and put beds with ringed with onions, garlic and chive in the front where the deer can get to the beds. All of my Galvanized beds are Hügelkultur. I always was like ,what do I do with the tree limbs in my wooded acre lot? Well now I have a use for those old branches, pine needles and leaves. Putting in loads of berries soon. I have them in the south garden getting hardening off
Sweet…..!
Well here we go again. Preping for another hurricane. Praying it's not a very wet one.
Good to see your video on winter veg! Always good to see you.❤️🙏
Hi Phoebe!
Glad to see you back at it, hoping all is well for you and the family!
Nice to see you back in the garden. Scott loved that cute label you put up saying like and subscribe! So clever! I love it! 😊
Garden looks great. Phoebe looking adorable. Glad you are back. Prayers from Lower Alabama.

great vlog, as you are coming into winter we are coming into spring… so me planting my spring vegetables, my winter crop is almost done I did carrots, broad beans, Onions, and my garlics are almost ready to pick, I have in my small greenhouse , tomatoes, capricums, cucembers just sprouting, and I have flowers on my blackberry bush… can't wait, but might need some help on rasphberries, don't seem to get f;owers, this is my 2nd year growing them…..ummm
I wanted to do a winter garden too but I'm just a teensy bit further north than you. I think I might too late.
Thanks for the video 🙂 Glad to see you getting the winter garden going, tough time for your fam rt now, just know that we appreciate your kindness in making videos to help us learn to garden, and enjoy gardening even more because of it.
I planted brassicas wayyyy too early and they are almost the same size as yours. will be fun to see if they will keep up with how fast yours will grow in my first year beds, first garden ever actually, and yours was the channel that convinced me to give it a go, so thanks!!! You should see the mess i have on my hands, all kinds of summer and fall crops jammed into three 4×8 beds, 12 grow bags, 20 some containers/pots and 8 window boxes!! All lined up in a side strip between house and driveway. Its been an adventurous year and Its all Scott's fault!!
But seriously, thanks for having such a great channel.
QQ-at what temps/weather should i pull out peppers and things to overwinter? Or can i leave them in w protection, zone9b, Kingwood just north of you. they were all planted in early aug after the beds were created and look so good I havent had the desire to do it.
My seedlings did not do well after planting. Replanted twice. Waiting to see damage from hurricane Nicole and replant again. Thanks for sharing 🙏😎🏖🏝
Good to see you and Phoebe. We got our first snow today, I'm expecting a seed order next week, and I'll try planting salad greens in pots indoors under grow lights soon in the hopes of getting at least one good-size salad each week throughout the winter. God bless.
Hi Scott missed your videos.. but Glad your back 🌱🌱🌱
I just saw MI GARDENER show how you can get them old Halloween pumpkins and break up and Bury them in the garden .,and will be good for the soil..I’m gonna try
I'm in SW Louisiana zone 9a also…so our weather is very similar. Ready for some cool weather next week.
That will be some good eating this winter! Here in 5b, I'm tucking most of my beds in for winter but the kale and brussels sprouts are still going 🙂
Scott – how are you getting that rosemary to survive? I've had several plants, and all have eventually died on me. Some I planted in the ground; some I've left in pots. I'm also in Zone 9a – about an hour east of you in the Beaumont area.
Hi Scott I was wondering why you haven’t used the weed barrier cloth ? I hope I didn’t miss you mentioning it-my ADD please forgive if you did mention it.
I hope you are doing well 🤗💚🌱 🌱
Have a Better weekend & A better next week Scott . Take Care Your gardening friends Care 💛🌻💛
So glad to see you planting a fall garden.
Good for you. I was ready to prep my autumn garden in August when I hurt my back. The doctors say they know what to, but have not scheduled it yet….
That made me laugh. I’m not too confident in the broccoli. me either. I feel like it’s a waste of space in my 8 a garden.
Great to see a new video from you! A while back, you asked for pens to mark plant markers. I use paint pens (acrylic paint) that don't fade. You might try those. PaintMark Quick-Dry Paint Pens – Write On Anything! Rock, Wood, Glass, Ceramic & More! Low-Odor, Oil-Based, Medium-Tip Paint Markers (15 Pack). I use them to paint garden pots, garden rocks, and labels.
Garden archeology, lol
