I’m old. I don’t remember the name of the camellia I just bought and put into the ground. I do know that it’s hardy in my zone six and it has red flowers, it’s a japonica and I believe it’s fragrant. I can’t wait to see it take off and grow and produce lovely red blooms with fragrance! I’m hoping that the Lord blesses me with time to see what it will eventually turn into. I have always loved camellia’s and finally found one for my zone. 🍁🍂🍁🦃💚🙃
I have a perfect spot in my new garden bed… now if I could only find it in stock in person or online! 🧐
Thanks for showing us what plants look like in a home garden!
Beautiful
Good morning Jim and Stephanie! My Camillia was gifted to me so I am not sure what I have. I assume d I had a Japonica but, mine resembles this one 🤔 It is 6+ years and compact about 4 by 5. We just moved it to our new home and it was covered in buds and worried me moving it but, it has not shown any shock or loss of buds etc. I will purchase a couple more because I love them. This will be one I get. Thank you. 😊
Hi Jim! I planted one of these beautiful camellias in a full shade foundation spot in my Washington zone 8 garden a year ago last fall. TBD on how it grows (no blooms yet). But I agree that it is stunning even without blooms! Fingers crossed it does fine and blooms regardless of the full shade. Worst case, I'll move it to a sunnier spot and plant a smaller shade evergreen that stays within 5×5.
Amazing colors 🍃🤍
These have been a little hard to find but I planted a 3 gallon last year. It’s a very nice plant. Form and flower are really nice. Mine is woodland shade – not ideal – but still flowered moderately. It wants a bit more sun
My snowball bush gets such huge flowers that it flops to the ground with the first spring rain. It is about 10 ft tall after twenty-some years in the same spot. This year our very hot drought (zone 7a, OKC) burned the leaves to a crisp but as soon as the temps went down to 95’ it bloomed again – a first. My grandmother had one in her front yard that never stood upright, it was so full of heavy jumbo snowballs. Maybe she pruned it to be fuller.
This plant is absolutely amazing! My list of wants is growing daily….Problem smallish lot to plant on!
