A quick update from the veg plot in mid November.
Hi, I’m Dan and I grow a huge variety of vegetables for eating and also some Giant and Exhibition Show varieties for Local and even National Competitions.
Throughout the year I will try to show how I go about growing my produce and hopefully give a few tips and tricks along the way.
Whether it be how I grow potatoes in containers, growing basic veg for the home to growing a 10 pound onion or even a 100 pound marrow I will chart all my progress.
Please have a look at my videos and subscribe to my Channel.
Thanks.

  1. What a revelation this ‘no dig’ nonsense must be to millenniums of farmers who mistakenly spent half their working life ploughing their fields 😂

  2. I've still got flowers on my outdoor cherry tomatoes, been picking them for 4 months now and they're still going. They look dreadful mind, the wind has blown them over but they are still covered in fruit. All from a couple of supermarket Piccolo tomatoes which are supposed to be F1, but I've been saving the seed for years now and they still grow true

  3. Garden looks good Dan, considering you haven't even been up there for a while. I've had my garlic in for a while now, they're about 6 inches high. I've never had any problems with them growing through winter. Nice to see you back mate, good luck.

  4. My brother plants his garlic on the east coast of Canada in October and it stays over winter, so it should be fine through a mild UK winter.

Also the dog should feature in more videos!

  5. Apples! My last crop….fell to an incursion of wild boar this year and down came the wild plums, too You'd be amazed how strong they are – and how determined.

  6. I'm not sure about the self pollinating apples. Undoubtedly they will fertilise, but as I understand it they would do far better with a different partner and it might be worth getting one rather than keeping the incorrect duplicate you have. "Self pollinating" may only mean "Produces masses of pollen" and consequently some self-fertilisation – but also means that variety would be a great pollinator.
