You can grow a winter garden in Northern VA without covers. You can plant cold wether vegetables like Winter Rape, Tai Soi, Chard, Evergreen Onions, Egyptian Walking Onions, Mustard Greens, Leeks, Oregano, Rosemary etc.

The vegetables must be established before the first frost and they will continue to grow into the winter months. Most of these vegetables will make it through the winter as you harvest them and eat them

  1. Great video. I’m in zone 7a too. I scored a ton of compost from a farm. The compost is kinda wet and heavy from rain. I plan to store it in a large can over winter. Do u think that I can’t just add some potting mix to the container to get rid of some of the moisture? Maybe don’t add soil and just drill holes in the bottom of the container and see what it looks like in spring?

  2. Love it! You have an awesome garden! I’m in NC zone 7B and this year I will be trying to grow during winter for the first time. I am using some mini greenhouse toppers for my raised beds, plus 2 nice big free standing ones I scooped up on clearance at Aldi a few weeks ago 😊

  3. Man, this is the first time I've seen a winter garden. I…kinda assumed you give up in the winter and restart in the spring
