“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” -John Steinbeck
Welcome! Today I want to tackle some Fall clean up in the Oak Tree and Cottage Garden Beds! It’s so cold here this week it took some nudging to get outside, but I’m so glad I did! 🥶 Enjoy!

Patiently waiting here on the master gardener! Hope everyone has a lovely Monday xx
I think that weed is called robin-run-the-hedge. It’s known by other names too. It’s sticky and can be very invasive.
Seems really cold 😀
What's the temperature!
That weed looks like cleavers ( gallium aparine) , very sticky! we get it here in the uk it’s easy to pull but a bit of a pain… Keep warm Janey xxx

Leaves are great mulch, they add nutrients to the soil when they break down, and reduce weeds……please save your energy for other things.
I'd blow the leaves off your pathway and onto your garden beds.
Those ferns are doing really well, maybe think about adding some other shade loving ferns. And some small crocus and muscari would be so pretty if planted in groups of 7 or 9, in some areas that get a bit more sun in this part of your fern garden, for early spring colour.
Just some ideas, happy 😊 gardening, Jo.
I(t's spring here in New Zealand, so I've been planting like crazy, larkspur, delphinium, penstemon, asters, pin cushions, dahlias, brunfelsias, dianthus, knipfolias, and for shade, hellebores, hostas, dicentra, brunnera, heuchera, iris, pulmonaria, lamium and button ferns.)
Good morning Janey 🌺 well done nice work this plant that you asked about I think ( Euphorbia peplus),we have rain in the morning but now it's sunney and warm Have awonderful and warm day. 🌻🌺🌻
Hello! Autumn has come to your garden. Some plants have become even more interesting! Be careful with peonies. Good luck to you👌🌻🐦😊😹

Lynne here. Your limelight’s are loving the cold nights hence their beautiful color. Another lovely video. Have a wonderful week everyone.
It's finally gotten cold here, and windy, which I hate when it's cold. You should show that weed to your garden people when class starts, or now I guess.
I get alot of those in my garden . But l live in England. Looking at the weed it'sa cleaver ,clivers, or as l call it catchweed . Hope that helps.
Your hydrangeas are loving the cooler weather! The weed almost looks like Shefflera a houseplant but sticky so maybe not 🤔
Hi Janey, would you pls tell me how often you will be putting ice cubes on your peony this Dec. Have you tried this before? I read an article this summer with that recommendation so I'm going to give it a try myself.
Cold over here in Windsor too, it's hard to predict the weather anymore. . .Have a fab week!
Remembering what the oak garden looked like before you gave it a makeover, I think it’s looking great (and what phenomenal ferns!!!). Just a thought, maybe instead of doing a fairy village, the girls could do a mini snow-covered village with a nod to Christmas. 😉 Loving your work. And I’m enjoying seeing your colder weather – it was 31°C (87.8F) and 87% humidity here today, so all my watering got done early!
I think your weeds are bindweed. Not nice😕 I thought that's what it was when you put it up to the camera but then when you said it was sticky that confirmed it. It's nasty if you let it take hold so keep pulling it 🌿
Good morning Janey 😊.
Your weed is Galium aparine, aka Bedstraw. Definitely pull it before it flowers. It is a perennial and produces lots of seed if you let it go to seed.
Good morning Happy Monday
Good morning Jill. Happy Monday.
Looks great!
that weed might be cleavers or possibly purslane. Purslane has a more succulent look. cleavers eventually as it matures sticks to your clothing like velcro, both have medicinal uses. but I tend to pull them away as they take over things.
Sticky weed or catch weed…that’s what we call it. I use to have it everywhere, but have slowly gotten rid of the big patches. I pull them up as soon as I see it’s ugly head. Pulling it out works the best, but I’ve also poured boiling water on it or sprayed it w vinegar. It’s gotten cold down here in Houston, also….brrr, lol! It feels great, I love yard clean up when it’s cool! No mosquitos, haha!
Looks good! I, too, have been avoiding fall cleanup due to the cold weather and wind!! But, I guess it’s time…thanks for the inspiration. The hydrangeas are so pretty!❄️M
Yes it is cold!!! And yes it did get cold this season FAST!!! Haha I agree the sword ferns look great! Hmm maybe I will try growing those too being that we are in the same area. 🧡❤️💜💙💚
My app says your weed is Cleavers, a species of Bedstraws (Galium). Also know as Catchweed bedstraw, stickyweed, Goosegrass…..just to name a few! 😉
Excellent job
I feel you, it's too cold in Texas also can we enjoy fall first.
I am very interested to know if it’ll work putting ice on peony. I hope it will work. Plz give us follow up.
Purslane, safe and even edible
Your weed looks like Goosegrass (Cleavers) comes with many names 🥰 lovely clean up 🥰
I offer the suggestion that you add some height (multi-levels) to your fairy garden by adding rock borders then filling with soil. From the walls created you can lean a ladder, make a waterfall that flows into a brook (create with blue marbles from dollar store). Add a beach next to waterway (use landscape fabric underneath sand). Make sections using fences (make with sticks), rocks, etc to allow for houses with yards, walkways, gardens, patios. Add tall birdhouses. Hotglue items to rocks to keep them in place. Plants and groundcovers can better be controlled when in sections (wooly thyme, dymondia, dichondra). (I love fairy vine but too invasive). Add overhanging plants outside the garden to create seclusion underneath. Add larger plants outside the garden to provide background. Once established the fairy garden is easily maintained and altered. Don't forget fairy lights and small solar garden lights. Glad you and your daughters are enjoying the fairy garden
Everything is relative… here in Seattle a sunny 50° day would be what I’d call perfect for gardening.
So funny… 😂😁👩🌾
